Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) marked the start of the new year with the launch of the new Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. As the brand’s first model introduction of the year, the launch also served as a platform to outline HLYM’s strategic direction and vision for the Malaysian market. Centered on delivering greater value and elevated riding experiences to customers while further strengthening Yamaha’s position as a premier lifestyle brand. The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, an evolution of Yamaha’s proven sport-touring platform, embodies this direction through a series of thoughtful enhancements that prioritise real-world comfort, advanced technology, and everyday usability. These refinements reinforce Yamaha’s belief that true value is derived from meaningful, performance-driven improvement. Speaking at the launch, Hoo Wan Tim, HLYM’s General Manager of Branding & Marketing commented, “In 2025, Yamaha strengthened its position as a market leader across both the mass-market and big bike segments, reflecting the trust and confidence riders place in the brand. This is made possible by the unwavering support of our customers, which continues to drive the company forward into 2026 with a focus on delivering more rewarding riding experiences.” As HLYM looks ahead, the company has identified the big bike segment as a key growth pillar in Malaysia, supported by positive market momentum across multiple categories. The segment continues to demonstrate strong potential. Growing interest in automatic models in the 200–500cc segment reflects evolving rider preferences, while in the above 500cc category, the touring segment remains the most prominent and continues to expand. These trends highlight increasing demand for versatile motorcycles designed to meet the needs of both long-distance touring and everyday riding. “The Malaysian big bike market presents a significant growth opportunity for Yamaha. Our aim is to introduce products that are relevant, premium, and aligned with how riders live, ride, and explore,” added Mr Hoo. At the heart of this strategy is the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, a premium sport-touring motorcycle combining performance, comfort, and versatility for both urban riding and long-distance journeys. Designed for riders seeking dynamic performance with touring confidence, it embodies Yamaha’s racing DNA adapted for everyday use. The Yamaha Tracer 9 GT features a Matrix Headlight system that automatically adjusts individual LEDs to optimize illumination based on surrounding traffic conditions. For enhanced rider comfort, the model includes an electronically adjustable windscreen and a redesigned fairing that has been wind-tunnel tested for superior protection. Riders can also utilize the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) system via a new 7-inch full-color TFT display, allowing for the customisation of engine characteristics and electronic intervention to suit personal preferences or varying road conditions. Adding further value, the Tracer 9 GT is equipped with a comprehensive suite of features to enhance convenience and confidence. These include Y-Connect with integrated navigation, electronically controlled suspension, and a third-generation quick shifter. The motorcycle also features a new seat design for easier foot reach, a Smart Key System, and an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) for improved safety. Photo gallery
