XPENG’s sales results in April were mixed. There are some strong figures and some weak ones. There’s also a new figure I’ve never seen before. First off, total sales in April were 31,011 vehicles. That was a 13.1% increase month over month, but it was also an 11.5% decline year over year, meaning XPENG is yet to have a month in 2026 outperform a month in 2025. That said, it is good to see month-over-month growth, and the period did seem to end strong. XPENG shares that customers now need much less time to make a decision to buy a car, thinks to its latest driver-assist upgrade (which Larry Evans experienced for CleanTechnica and wrote about yesterday). “Furthermore, following the official rollout of VLA 2.0 in March, test-drive satisfaction rates at XPENG retail stores recorded a significant increase by the end of April. The average time customers take to make a purchase decision after a test drive also decreased by 44.7% month-over-month, reinforcing intelligent driving as a key driver of sales growth,” the company writes. That’s inspiring news. Obviously, the company is going to highlight any positive numbers it can find, but the fact that customers are that much quicker to buy a car after a test drive does sound like a big deal and a great endorsement of what Larry says is truly impressive tech. XPENG also just unveiled a new vehicle, the GX, “its first full-sized flagship SUV built around its most advanced cross-domain technologies.” That will surely boost sales, and maybe it’s just what XPENG shoppers have been waiting for. Then there’s also this: “On April 7, 2026, XPENG and its European production partner Magna marked the roll-off of the first locally produced P7+ from the production line at Magna’s plant in Graz, Austria. This is the third model to be locally manufactured in Austria, following the G6 and G9, deepening XPENG’s manufacturing footprint in Europe through its partnerships.” Combining all of these sales boosters from April, I do assume we’ll see a significant jump in sales in May. Does that mean XPENG will finally achieve year-over-year sales growth again? Maybe…. Here are also static images of the embedded charts above:
