Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 and reach full capacity within the same year. XCharge has not disclosed the investment amount for the Silla site, located a few kilometres south of Valencia.XCharge is an international manufacturer of charging infrastructure with roots in China. However, the company is now managed from dual global headquarters in Hamburg and Austin, USA, though production has so far been primarily based in Asia. XCharge has been active in Europe since 2017 and has installed around one-third of its global total of 9,000 charging units on the continent. With the future production site in Silla, the company is further expanding its European presence: in addition to its headquarters in Hamburg and the development lab opened there in 2024, XCharge has also operated a technology centre with a warehouse in the Spanish capital, Madrid, since last September. At Silla, XCharge plans to initially manufacture charging units from the GridLink series, a battery-supported fast-charging solution. A 215 kWh battery storage system (optionally 430 kWh) is designed to enable vehicle charging at up to 200 kW, even though the GridLink system only requires a 44 kW grid connection. Battery-supported fast chargers like these are intended to facilitate high-power charging expansion in regions with weaker grid infrastructure. Additionally, the charging points can even continue operating for a period during power outages.Albina Iljasov, Director of XCharge Europe, did not confirm the exact number of jobs to be created in Silla during the inauguration ceremony for the assembly halls. However, she stated that the hiring process would begin ‘very soon’, as national, regional, and local governments are supporting the company in implementing its plans. It is expected that Xpeng will not only offer jobs in production, but is also looking for technical specialists and engineers, particularly in the testing department. Javier Lázaro, Sales Director for Europe, emphasised at the event that, in addition to the area’s industrial structure, the energy mix and the availability of skilled labour ‘undoubtedly played a fundamental role’ in the site selection process. The event was also attended by representatives of corporate partners such as Repsol, Acciona, Remo, and the charging joint venture between Iberdrola and BP Pulse—potential customers for the charging solutions manufactured in Spain by XCharge.Additionally, EnBW uses XCharge charging solutions in Germany and has entered into a long-term framework agreement with the company as a second supplier alongside Alpitronic.europapress.es (in Spanish)
