(NewsNation) — Waymo is recalling nearly 3,900 robotaxis after some of its self-driving vehicles drove past closure signs into freeway construction zones.The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, involves a software issue linked to more than a dozen incidents since early April.In six incidents over two days in April, Waymo vehicles in Arizona "did not recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into pre-planned freeway construction zones," according to the recall report.AdvertisementAdvertisement Waymo recalls thousands of robotaxis over potential 'loss of vehicle control' On May 18, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with "active construction" in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between traffic cones, the report said.Waymo, a subsidiary of Google's parent Alphabet, told Reuters it voluntarily restricted freeway operations last month while making improvements after identifying "an area of improvement regarding performance around freeway construction zones."
