The Acura (Honda outside the United States) Integra Type R ranks among the greatest front-wheel-drive performance cars ever. Its legendary 1.8-liter four-cylinder makes 195 horsepower and has a redline at an impressive 8,400 rpm. Now, the British company Tolman is giving this classic sports coupe the "restomod" treatment. We put restomod in quotes because there's not really anything different here. However, the process involved in the Type R project isn't quite a normal restoration, either. A Nearly New Integra Type R TolmanTolman uses what it calls a "non-invasive restomod approach." This means the vehicle appears stock, but there are hundreds of hours of work in the restoration. The revisions include new, hand-formed pieces for the rear quarter panels and wheel arches because the company couldn't source replacement parts of a high enough quality. The process took 180 hours of fabrication and fitment. Underneath the skin, Tolman used seam sealer and cavity spray to protect the chassis from any future corrosion."When the panels are not available, you either compromise or make them yourself. We’ll never compromise, so the answer was clear. The result is a build that stays true to the Integra, is sharp to drive and can be used with confidence."- Chris Tolman, company founderIt's hard to tell in the images, but the body is the color Sorrento Green. It's a very dark shade that looks black in low light. Inside, Tolman sources new-old-stock fabric to re-upholster the front seats.Tolman's Integra Type R restomod still uses the famous Honda B18 engine. However, the company rebuilds the powerplant to factory specifications, so buyers get one as good as a new one from a dealer. The restoration also included replacing all brake and fluid lines, installing new suspension bushings, and installing fresh springs and dampers. The refinished original wheels wear a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 tires.Tolman does each build as a one-off. The Integra is one of four cars it's assembling this year. The company previously built a Peugeot 205 GTI restomod and also restores vehicles. The Integra Type R Is Valuable Today Tolman While Tolman didn't disclose the price for this build, an Integra Type R in pristine condition can be worth quite a bit today. In 2025, one sold for $204,204, and an example in 2022 went for $112,112. The values represent quite a bit of appreciation for a car that retailed for $24,450 in 2001.The reason for their high value is due in part to the Integra Type R's rarity. Fewer than 4,000 of them were sold in the US during the production run from 1997 to 2001. Plus, the high-revving engine and razor-sharp suspension tuning made it one of the best front-wheel-drive performance cars ever. These days, even the newest examples of the Integra Type R are getting to be 25 years old, meaning it's legal to import them into the US. The increased supply might help drive prices down, but we expect that pristine American-market vehicles will continue to be valuable in the future.Tolman Honda Integra Type R RestomodSource: Tolman
