Now, a new teaser clip shared by Acura on YouTube indicates that the brand wants to grab attention and cause kids to gasp. The clip briefly shows the rear end of an as-yet unnamed concept car with a striking rear lighting signature, with the caption announcing that the new concept will be revealed next week at The Quail, as part of the Monterey Car Week festivities.Acura Is About To Stand OutAcura hasn't indicated what sort of car this concept previews, so it could be a hatchback, sedan, or SUV, but the X-shaped taillight motif is similar to that seen on the concept we saw in March, just more aggressive. Vertical brake lights appear above and below the illuminated ACURA wordmark, and the upper of these appears to indicate a fastback-style rear end, with the glasshouse flowing into a sudden drop-off of the tailgate. These details, plus the fact that the last Acura concept was said to preview design elements of the fourth-generation RDX, suggest that the concept being unveiled at The Quail will be tall and crossover-like. At the front, we'll likely see a relatively familiar lighting signature with angular bodywork giving the fascia texture in a manner similar to the earlier concept. Presumably, this new concept will also promote a hybrid drivetrain, but we'll have to wait for the reveal to learn more.AcuraAutoblog's TakeHyundai's premium arm, Genesis, is going further upscale, so Honda's luxury arm could use a fresh approach to vehicle design to stay in touch, but we suspect that while the new concept will act as a blueprint for future aesthetics, it could also be a harbinger of more exciting offerings, just as the Magma sub-brand is at Genesis. The NSX is long gone, and a new halo vehicle may help bring attention to the Acura brand. If the concept shown at The Quail is as exciting as the teaser clip below suggests and it debuts to rapturous applause, and if customers show real interest, Acura may be able to justify creating something more exciting than the Integra Type S.
