The number of luxury SUVs on the market today is absurd, and standing out can be hard. The 2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed isn't really about standing out. It's more about rewarding the driver and passengers with quiet, ultra-luxury features and a twin-turbo V8. Now what's not to like about that? Bentley has decided to move away from the well-loved W12 platform this year, and the reward is a twin-turbo, uber-luxury super SUV with more power than ever before. And that, my friends, is exciting. But there's a lot more to the Bentayga than just a V8, though, so read on, comrades. How Bentley Made A 5,000-Pound SUV Feel Fast 2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed front 3/4 viewThe Bentayga Speed is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. On paper, that’s enough to push this 5,000-plus-pound SUV from 0–60 mph in about 3.4 seconds. In reality, it feels even more impressive because of how composed it remains. When I tested the 0-60 time, it was pretty darn close to 3.4 seconds. The speed itself is not the surprise. The Bentayga is already known for that. What stood out was how restrained it felt at launch, before unleashing everything a moment later.David Alpert / HotCarsIn a totally rookie move, I decided to do this testing with a full pint glass of coffee in the cupholder, but it didn't budge. We went from 0-60 MPH in under four seconds, and my coffee stayed put. That pretty much sums up the Bentayga Speed’s personality. It moves fast, but it never feels frantic.Off the line, there’s a brief moment before everything hooks up, and then it just goes. It reminded me of a drag car waiting for the tires to bite before launching forward. Once it’s moving, the speed builds quickly and effortlessly, without any drama leaking into the cabin.Regardless of the coffee debacle, here's the cost breakdown for our test vehicle. The base price was $284,300, the options were $126,600, and the total came up to $415,050 with the destination charges. Here's everything that was added on.Expensive? Sure, but you get what you pay for with this luxury SUV. What The Speed Trim Really Changes David Alpert / HotCarsThe Speed trim is where the Bentayga’s character really shifts. Sport mode sharpens everything: throttle response, transmission behavior, suspension tuning, and exhaust sound, without turning the SUV into something harsh or unruly. You still have Comfort and Bentley modes for quieter cruising, but Sport is where the Speed earns its name. The transmission is quick and smooth, exactly what you’d expect at this level. What stood out most, though, was the sound. You can hear the V8 even in Comfort mode, but once you slip into Sport, it finally opens up. The Speed is perfectly acceptable in the other trim levels too, and I kept it in Comfort mode while scooting through the neighborhood. It's nice to blast your neighbors with V8 grumbles at 7 AM on the way to pilates, in my expert opinion.David Alpert / HotCarsOur test vehicle was equipped with the Titanium Sports Exhaust, an $11,080 option that feels completely justified. The V8 gains a deeper, louder presence that makes the Speed impossible to ignore, especially under load. For anyone who actually wants their performance SUV to sound the part, this option is worth every penny. What can I say, the noises are important. Aggressive Where It Counts, Bentley Everywhere Else David Alpert / HotCarsVisually, the Bentayga Speed stays restrained. From a distance, it can be hard to tell one Bentayga trim from another, and that feels intentional. Small changes give the Speed its edge, including a slightly more aggressive front fascia, subtle aero tweaks, and a rear spoiler. It doesn’t chase the loud, extroverted look of some rivals. Instead, it keeps things understated until you’re close enough to notice the details. If you know what you’re looking at, it makes sense. If you don’t, it simply looks like a very well-spec'd Bentley. But that what makes it so good: you know it's a Bentley, you know it's luxurious, and you know it's well made. You don't need to know specific trim details to get it.David Alpert / HotCarsThat same approach carries through the Mulliner upgrades and customization options. Trim colors, contrast stitching, and finish choices don’t scream for attention, but together they elevate the overall look in a way that feels deliberate and cohesive. You can essentially change whatever you want on the Bentayga, but I'm a fan of how elegant our test vehicle was without screaming about it. The Cabin That Reminds You This Is Still A Bentley 2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed front cabinStep inside, and any concern about the Bentayga Speed being “too sporty” disappears immediately. This is still very much a Bentley cabin, filled with rich materials, thoughtful details, and an overwhelming sense of comfort. Small details like the headliner, the diamond-quilted seats, and the decadent materials really take things up a notch. Our press vehicle featured the Four Seat Comfort Specification, which adds a rear center console and elevates the second row into something closer to a private lounge. Each seat is large and comfortable, with heating, cooling, and massaging for everyone. There is plenty of storage throughout, and small details that make life a little easier. In the back seat, the control panel screen pops out for easier adjustments. You can adjust the climate controls, seat settings, ambient lighting, and open/close the blinds throughout the cabin. The seats back here are incredible, and I would be thrilled to get driven around in the Bentayga. While some vehicles prioritize the driver, each seat is equally well-equipped. As mentioned, our press vehicle is available in a four-seat configuration, but a five-seat setup is also available.Combined with options like Naim for Bentley audio and extensive Mulliner finishes, the interior genuinely feels like a living room on wheels, just one that happens to be capable of nearly 200 mph. What I appreciated most is that Bentley doesn’t nickel-and-dime you on basics. You’re not paying extra for essentials. The options exist to personalize the vehicle, not to make it functional in the first place. A Super SUV That Somehow Makes Sense On Real Roads David Alpert / HotCarsDuring daily drives, the 2026 Bentley Bentayga feels shockingly coherent. Adaptive air suspension keeps it comfortable in everyday driving, and the various drive modes allow it to shrink around you more than its size suggests. Even with all that performance on tap, it never feels overwhelming or exhausting to drive. It’s just as happy cruising quietly on the highway as it is stretching its legs when the road opens up.Bentley included everything someone might want for a comfortable ride, but didn't add a bunch of bells and whistles for the sake of it. Each element is thoughtfully added and makes sense within the ultra-luxury SUV's cabin. From weekday commutes to relaxed weekend drives, the Bentayga covers both roles with more polish and personality than you might expect.By the end of the week, I walked away genuinely impressed. The Bentayga Speed checks every box it sets out to hit: fast, luxurious, comfortable, and deeply customizable. It doesn’t try to reinvent what a Bentley SUV should be, just refines it and adds a whole lot of marvelous speed, as the name implies.
