Few Japanese SUVs have quite the same road presence as the Lexus LX 700, and while this black example may look just like any other, it’s actually hiding some significant upgrades. No, it doesn’t have the power to outrun the authorities, but it can definitely keep occupants safe from attackers. Not only that, but it can deal with two hand grenade blasts thanks to the 360-degree perimeter protection around the body. In addition to strengthening the SUV’s body panels, Miami Armored adds ballistic glass throughout as well as armor plates to the fuel tank, engine bay, and battery. After all, there’s no point having an armored passenger cell if a few rifle shots to the fuel tank or engine can incapacitate the vehicle. There’s also an overlap system across the different panels to ensure no bullets sneak their way into the passenger cell. The Miami company, working in partnership with Canadian armoring specialists Inkas, has not messed with the LX 700’s powertrain. That means it retains the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid, delivering an impressive 457 hp and 583 lb-ft (790 Nm) of torque. According to the company, the added weight of the armoring doesn’t have a significant impact on the vehicle’s performance, which is no doubt something high-profile clients will be pleased to read.
