Polestar’s launches 4 SUV to take on BMW’s Neue Klasse iX3. Dual-motor version packs 536 hp, hits 62 mph in 3.9 seconds. American buyers won’t get it as Polestar prepares to leave US. The Polestar 4 SUV is a more sensible offshoot of the brand’s existing 4 coupe, and in more ways than one. It doesn’t just increase interior space by replacing the fastback rear end with a more upright one, but gets rid of the 4 coupe’s most controversial feature, its glass-free rear “window.” That new backside brings useful benefits besides being able to see out of it and saving you a chunk of change (£2,000 in the UK). Rear passengers get an extra 25 mm (1 inch) of headroom, while cargo capacity stands at 1,665 liters measured to the roofline with the seats folded, compared with 1,536 liters in the coupe. Small Catch, It’s Leaving The US But with the seats up and cargo kept below the window line, the Polestar 4 SUV’s 530-liter space is barely better than the coupe’s 526 liters. Both, however, beat a BMW iX3’s 520 liters, though the iX3’s 58-liter frunk is much more useful than the Polestar twins’ 15-liter one. In case you are thinking of regularly driving around in your SUV with kit crammed into every nook and cranny it’s worth knowing that a conventional mirror comes standard, though buyers who’ve grown emotionally attached to staring at a screen can still order the 4 coupe’s digital rear-view mirror. Underneath, things are very familiar. The single-motor, rear-drive version produces 268 hp (272 PS / 200 kW) and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm), reaching 62 mph (100 kmh) in 7.3 seconds while delivering up to 391 miles (629 km) of WLTP electric range. The all-wheel-drive Dual-motor variant packs 536 hp (544 hp / 400 kW) and 506 lb-ft (686 Nm), cutting the sprint to 3.9 seconds while offering 373 miles (600 km) of range. Optional Performance Pack Both use a 100 kWh battery and support DC charging at up to 200 kW. That’s respectable rather than groundbreaking in 2026, particularly with rivals like BMW’s Neue Klasse iX3 pushing charging speeds twice as high. Drivers wanting extra spice can order Polestar‘s Performance pack, bringing recalibrated ZF active dampers, Brembo brakes, 22-inch wheels and Pirelli P Zero rubber. There’s also vehicle-to-load capability delivering up to 3.3 kW, plus a Camping mode that keeps climate control, entertainment and other cabin features running while parked. Prices in the UK start at £54,750 for the Rear motor and £60,750 for the Dual motor, with the Performance pack version beginning at £68,250. That makes the SUV £2,000 cheaper than the coupe, model for model. Production is already underway in Busan, South Korea, with deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year. Americans, sadly, will only be able to admire this sharp-looking EV from afar. Polestar has decided to pull out of the US rather than fight restrictions linked to its Chinese ownership and technology. Polestar
