Polestar's new electric SUV 4 comes with a range of up to 630 km. Stefan Isaksson/Polestar/dpaPolestar has added a new model to its line-up of electric cars with a more practical version of its 4.Launched in 2023, the original Polestar 4 made headlines due to its lack of rear screen and sweeping design.Now, the Swedish-Chinese maker's new SUV version aims to bring a larger boot and 'greater everyday usability' while retaining the electric powertrain from the original.The most noticeable change to the 4's design in its switch to the SUV model is the introduction of a rear screen, integrated into a taller rear end. There's a straighter roofline, too, and the tailgate is more upright to help with access.AdvertisementAdvertisementRather than a digital rear-view mirror, there's a conventional one – though Polestar can add the high-tech alternative as an optional extra. Up top, there are full-length roof rails which can accompate a load of up to 100kg.A big boost in practicality has come through that redesigned rear end, too. Polestar says that the 4 SUV offers up to 530 litres of boot space, or 655 litres when measures right to the roofline. It's slightly more than the 526 litres you'll get from the standard 4, and it can be exppanded to 1,665 litres by folding down the rear seats.Polestar says that the more upright roofline has resulted in a 2.5cm boost in headroom for rear-seat passengers, too, despite a standard-fit panoramic sunroof which stretches all the way from the front of the cabin to the tailgate. This can be optionally switched out for a electrochromatic version which can be made opaque or transparent at the touch of a button.As with the regular 4, the SUV is available with two powertrains. The first has a dual-motor setup with 600 km of range, while a single rear-motor version can return up to 630 km of range.
