The AUDI E7X electric crossover that was just revealed in Beijing can claim more than just Audi's new big-letter China-market branding. The new model is within a hair of being the longest Audi SUV ever, with a wheelbase that gives it the longest cabin of any Audi SUV. It's also the most powerful SUV Audi has ever made. This Isn't Like Any US-Bound Audi Audi E7X (4)It's the second Audi that isn't... um... an Audi, and the first of the new brand's SUVs. That's AUDI, all-caps, for those who are a bit confused. This is the new brand that Audi launched in China to set it apart from its more traditional models that wear the four rings logo we're used to.The first of those new models was the E5 Sportback, which captured China Car of the Year 2026, so there's certainly no pressure for the second model. The E7X seems to be up to the task, though, as the first SUV built on the Advanced Digitized Platform that the company has developed along with partner SAIC.Audi's AUDI E7X measures 198.8 inches long, just under an inch shorter than the gas Q7. But the electric platform gives the E7X a 120.5-inch wheelbase, more than two inches longer. All of that extra space should translate to passenger and cargo room.Audi It's also powerful. A 900-volt electrical architecture means faster charging than any US-spec models. Audi claims 10-80% in 13 minutes, and 465 miles on the larger 109 kWh pack (using the WLTC test).A rear-drive model makes 402 horsepower, but a twin-motor AWD model will get 671. That's 40 horses more than Audi's current most-powerful king of SUVs, the twin-turbo V8-powered RSQ8.It has styling that is both new and familiar for the German automaker. From the A-pillar rearward, this is the Audi we know. Strong lines but with the smoother panels the brand has introduced recently. Cover the front, and this could be a larger new Q5.But the nose is clearly something new. AUDI drops the Audi singleframe grille for a large panel ringed with LED lighting. The company says that it "embodies status and confidence." More than 1,000 individual lights glow through the paint to display the AUDI signature look, while the actual headlamps are Audi's latest Digital Matrix adaptive LED design. It can even project warning markers onto the road at night. Audi Moves To Being All About The Back Seat Audi The E7X also introduces new levels of luxury for Audi. The interior, which can be fitted with five or seven seats, also offers a four-seat executive configuration. That one gets 120-degree recline rear seats with a 23-bag pneumatic adjustment system. Even the headrest is adaptive, with four-way power adjustment, to help elevate the experience.Audi keeps the focus on back-seat passengers with a 21.4-inch screen that drops from the headliner. Like most of the car's functions, it can be controlled by remote, touchscreen, or by voice. A 26-speaker Bose audio system – we would have expected a bigger name here – delivers surround sound for the back, and includes headrest speakers in the back and shoulder speakers in the front. The new Audi will also come with the brand's most advanced driver assist suite. The Audi 360 Driving Assist System was designed for traffic and driving in China, and comes with LiDAR sensors. Audi says it offers "support for both longitudinal and lateral vehicle control," which we're pretty sure just means it does adaptive cruise with lane changes and centering. It can also remember how to drive through your parking garage.Audi didn't announce a price, but since the odds of it coming to the US rank somewhere between slim and none, it doesn't really matter. For reference, the AUD E5 Sportback is ¥235,900 ($33,100). It will go on sale in China before the end of June.
