The Porsche 911, particularly earlier generations, is among the most popular starting points for many restomod projects. The car is an icon, and that legendary status has made it the darling of the modern coachbuilding scene. We know about restomods taking over the high-end automotive market, and one of the leading names in this space is Singer Vehicle Design.More than a decade old and having its restomods sold to nearly every corner of the globe, these are ten of Singer Vehicle Design's restomod builds that perfectly encapsulate the history and evolution of the California-based automotive company. For this list, we've selected ten restomod projects from Singer Vehicle Design (SVD) that were integral to the company's history and evolution. The restomods are arranged chronologically, from oldest to newest. Rob Dickinson's "Brown Bomber" Porsche 911 Significance: The Primordial 911 Reimagined By Singer Vehicle Design Singer Brown Bomber 1You always remember your first. For Singer Vehicle Design, the car that marked the genesis of what we know today as the company that creates some of the best Porsche 911 restomods was a 1969 Porsche 911E, nicknamed the "Brown Bomber." Its story dates back to 2003 when Dickinson moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of the ultimate blend of all-race-ready Porsche 911s.In stock form, the 1969 Porsche 911E uses a 2.0-liter flat-six, but in the Brown Bomber, a 3.0-liter modified flat-six sourced from a 911SC was used instead. The Brown Bomber also featured a slightly upgraded suspension and braking system, all to help fulfill its role as Dickinson's daily driver.Sure, it's far from what we expect from SVD today, but this 1969 Porsche 911E was the car that started it all. Reportedly, once completed, it drew attention from potential buyers seeking the same treatment for their older 911s. Only a few years later, Singer Vehicle Design was founded in a small auto shop in Sun Valley, California, and the first reimagined 911 by the business debuted. The Moscow Commission Significance: The First Four-Wheel-Drive 911 Singer Moscow Commission 1Singer Vehicle Design focused on modernizing and revitalizing older Porsche 911s, specifically the 964-generation models available from 1989 to 1993. The company's earliest works were referred to as "Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer," but we'd later come to know them as the Classic Study. These were the cars that helped establish the Singer Vehicle Design brand worldwide and within the restomod scene, quickly attracting names like Jenson Button. The reimagined cars underwent a restoration process in which most body panels were replaced with carbon fiber, powertrains were overhauled to deliver greater performance, and the level of customization offered to customers became a hallmark of the company's overhauled 911s.By the early 2010s, SVD's formula was set, and by 2014, we saw the first significant variation in that formula. The company introduced its first all-wheel-drive 911, dubbed the "Moscow Commission."Finished in Lavender Metallic and featuring a cabin with elements finished in nearly the same color as the exterior and complemented by houndstooth stitching. In that same year, SVD announced a new 4.0-liter engine that was hailed as the ultimate naturally aspirated flat-six not purpose-built for racing, which would become a staple in many of Singer's reimagined 911s from that point on. The Montreal Commission Significance: First Targa Reimagined By Singer Singer Montreal Commission 4Shortly after its founding, Singer Vehicle Design had already established itself as one of the most recognizable and desirable restomod brands. In 2015, it gained even greater notoriety and prestige after appearing at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed. By this time, Singer's lauded 911 restomods had reached nearly every corner of the globe, from New Zealand to Moscow, but up to then, they were all coupes. The Goodwood was the stage for the first 911 Reimagined by Singer, featuring a Targa top, called the "Montreal Commission." The debut not only represented the company's recognition by one of the world's most prestigious automotive events but also marked an evolution in its offerings. At the core of the Targa model, with a gray body and suede-trimmed interior, was a 4.0-liter flat-six engine built by Ed Pink that produced 390 hp.At the time, to have your 964 911 go under the knife, you'd need to cough up at least $395,000 for a basic example, but many of Singer's 911s typically cost more than $450,000. By 2015, the level of customization offered to clients was extensive and continued to deepen. Each example of the Classic Study 911 was more bespoke and personalized than the last. Singer DLS Significance: Marked A New Era In Singer's History 1990-Porsche-911-Reimagined-by-Singer-DLS-1Between 2009 and 2017, Singer Vehicle Design's portfolio consisted exclusively of the Classic Study lineup. During that time, the company built and delivered more than 60 examples of its reimagined 911s worldwide. These cars, although having reserved styling compared to other restomods, were impressive performance cars. They were far from the most potent Porsche 911s that Singer could produce, though. Enter the Singer Dynamic and Lightweight Study, "DLS" for short. It was born from the partnership between Singer Vehicle Design and Williams Advanced Engineering. The firm assisted in honing the aerodynamic profile of its then-new radical rendition of a 1989 Porsche 911. More importantly, Williams coaxed the 4.0-liter flat-six to churn out 500 hp and 9,000 rpm, more power than any 911 reimagined by Singer up until that point.Alongside its power output, it was the DLS's highly exaggerated fender flares, unique front fascia, and large whale tail spoiler that seared its image into the minds of enthusiasts worldwide. When it debuted, Singer announced that, instead of being a one-off example for Porsche die-hard Scott Blattner, a total of 75 other cars would receive the same "carbon-fiber-everywhere and more power" treatment for the low price of $1.8 million. Singer ACS Significance: First Singer 911 Built For Competition-Use And Its First Off-Road 911 singe acs frontBy far, the Singer All-terrain Competition Study (ACS) was the most radical reimagining of the Porsche 911 yet by the company when it debuted. Before the model's premiere in 2021, every Singer 911, Classic Study, or DLS was built to deliver the ultimate driving experience on the road. The ACS, as the name suggests, was designed for off-road performance. Two examples of the ACS were created: one finished in red and designed for high-grip racing on tarmac, while the other, finished in white, was the dune basher of the pair. These cars were created in collaboration with Porsche specialist Richard Tuthill, who would later create an equally absurd offshoot of the 911. Defining features of the off-road-ready model included: Twin custom long-travel suspension A twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six producing 450 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque Three mechanical, limited-slip differentials A permanent all-wheel-drive system FIA-spec roll cage From its powertrain to its exterior design, the ACS was unlike anything the company had created at the time. As impressive as the All-terrain Competition Study was, Singer's use of Porsche's logos on a car that was not an official product led the automaker to file a lawsuit against the California-based automotive company.Still, while dealing with a lawsuit from one of the most revered automakers on the planet, Singer Vehicle Design's growth continued. The company doubled its sales since 2020 and moved to a new, larger consolidated facility in Torrance, California, while the UK-based team continued to work on the DLS models. Singer Classic Turbo Significance: First Road-Going Restoration To Feature Forced Induction Singer-Turbo_Study-2022-4The Singer DLS, as we've noted, was a dramatic retelling of the classic 911, to the point that it was visually distinct from the model it was based on. However, what if customers wanted the classic styling with the performance offered in the DLS models? The solution was the Singer Classic Turbo, a blend of classic styling and a modern powertrain delivering more than 510 horsepower. The first example of this model was introduced in 2022, and its design celebrated the iconic 930 Turbo from the 1970s.The new model also marked another significant milestone for the brand. One of its core services, the Classic Study, had relied exclusively on an air-cooled, naturally aspirated flat-six, but now customers could choose a turbocharged powertrain in a product with an exterior design closely resembling the untouched 964-generation 911. Singer DLS Turbo Significance: Introduction Of Turbocharging For DLS Services Singer-DLS_Turbo-2023-3Singer's Dynamic and Lightweight Study was designed to deliver the ultimate air-cooled 911 experience. However, in 2023, we saw another significant shift in Singers' services, particularly the introduction of turbocharging for the DLS services. Now, Singer would pair a turbocharged flat-six engine capable of producing as much as 700 horsepower with extremely exaggerated bodywork.Similar to the ACS, the new DLS Turbo service was one of Singer's most distinctive offerings. The pioneer of this service was a bright-orange 911 with a billboard-sized whale-tail spoiler and gold wheels. Like the debut of the DLS, the addition of turbocharging marked a new era for SVD. The Sotto Commission Significance: The 300th Commission Completed In California 1990-Porsche-911-Targa--Sotto-Commission-4The Sotto Commission, an example of the Singer's Classic Study based on a 1990 Porsche 911 Targa, isn't remembered as the commission that ushered in a new era of SVD's services, but rather as the 300th commission built by Singer in California. It's also worth noting that SVD announced in 2022 that it would no longer take orders for the Classic Study models, of which a total of 450 examples were intended for production. This was a significant milestone for the company, which had grown since 2009 to more than 600 employees. By this time, the company's work was lauded worldwide and firmly cemented as the standard for restomods.Since its founding, the company's commissions have only become more detailed and valuable. Examples have changed hands for as much as $1.5 million. Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined By Singer Significance: Marked A New Series In SVD's Lineup Image 07At the start of 2025, Singer Vehicle Design announced changes to its management, with the addition of industry veteran Raj Nair to its ranks. Shortly after that, the company became one of the new owners of the nearly decommissioned Willow Springs International Raceway, which not only gave the hallowed race track another lease on life but also opened the door to a new private members' club that would cater to the company's clients and enthusiasts of its work.In May 2025, Singer debuted a new model based on the 964 911 Carrera. It featured a 420-hp naturally aspirated flat-six engine developed by Cosworth and underpinned by the latest hardware, including four-way adjustable dampers and Bosch-developed safety systems. Only 100 examples of this new facet of SVD's lineup were earmarked for production. With new models introduced to its catalog and a stake in one of America's most revered racetracks, Singer Vehicle Design finished the year by announcing that respected sales platform RM Sotheby's was earmarked as the go-to platform for the sale of second-hand examples of SVD's builds. The Sorcerer Commission Significance: The First Customer-Owned DLS Turbo Singer Sorcerer (9)We couldn't believe the proportions of the Singer DLS Turbo when we first saw it in 2023. When the first customer-ordered example, dubbed the "Sorcerer," debuted, the bewilderment was still palpable. The build sits at the top of the company's hierarchy, which consists of the Classic Study, DLS, Classic Turbo, and then the DLS Turbo. The "Sorcerer" was a far cry from the Brown Bomber that gave rise to one of the world's most beloved restomod companies.Since their partnership led to the creation of the first Singer DLS model, Williams Advanced Engineering has remained a significant contributor to the DLS family, including the DLS Turbo models. This project is the perfect representation not only of the level of customization offered in Singer's reimagined 911s, but also of SVD's evolution since its founding in 2009.
