Your favorite boutique restoration shop is now taking orders for its Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer, a thoroughly redesigned take on a 30-year-old convertible.Singer takes it down to the bare chassis and reimagines it from there on out.No price listed, but if you have to ask . . .Singer calls it “reimagined,” a label it puts on all its Porsche 911s, but whatever you call it, the end product is even better than the original. This widebody 964 911 Cabriolet is like the coupes Singer has done but with a nice retractable roof. The original model 911 Carrera 3.2 M491 “Turbo Look” Cabriolet was produced by Porsche for model years 1984–89. So you need one of those before Singer can get to work.Once the donor’s been delivered, Singer goes to town on it, taking it all apart down to the bare chassis, which gets composite and steel reinforcements. Then the engine gets rebuilt incorporating developments from Cosworth, including changes to the variable valve timing, combustion chamber design, and intake and exhaust. Those changes are good for 420 hp from the 4.0-liter flat-six, with power routed to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Singer 911 CabrioletThe chassis improvements may be the best part of any Singer, certainly the ones we’ve driven. This one gets new four-way adjustable dampers, the latest-gen ABS-controlling carbon-ceramic discs, traction control, and electronic stability control, all developed by Singer with Bosch. There are even four drive modes. It’s all wrapped in widebody carbon-fiber panels and lined with a personalized interior to your liking. Singer doesn’t list a price, saying that each restoration is “unique.” So assume that if you have to ask . . .They’re only making 75 of them, so find a 964 ASAP.
