Genesis GV90 Has Heated Floors and Coach DoorsGenesisGenesis has certainly been a strong contender in the middle of the luxury-car market since its debut as a brand a decade ago, but the Hyundai-owned premium automaker has never had a true flagship. That changed on Wednesday—the day the brand finally unveiled its GV90. Billed as both the brand's first full-sized SUV and its most ambitious production car to date, the GV90 is a massive electric three-row offering with a focus on the good things in life. The standard model is a direct competitor to the likes of the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, but things get even more interesting with the GV90 Neolun setup that brings what should become the SUV's signature feature. The two-row version of that model lines up against the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and like that vehicle, it is an an even more luxury-focused variant of the starter version. Unlike the Maybach, it announces that intent to the world with a set of ridiculously opulent pillar-less coach doors that the brand fittingly calls the "Neolun Arch Gate."GenesisThose unique doors, which slide first before opening outward from a rear hinge, reveal the point of the GV90 Neolun: a cavernous, living room-like interior meant to bring the Genesis brand one step closer to the world of ultra-luxury. The floors are real wood veneer with directly-integrated heating, matching warming systems built into the door cards and armrests. When two-row models are parked, the front seats can swivel around backwards to create a four-person conversational space that makes full use of the spacious cabin.GenesisWhile the 23.6-inch-wide central screen serves typical infotainment duties on the move, at rest, the screen can extend, growing 1.7 times its size into a 24.6-inch display to fulfill jobs more typical of a television. The massive 25-inch head-up display replaces a more traditional instrument panel, while Hyundai's new Pleos Connect operating system provides the technology behind the entire interface.GenesisGenesis stresses the safety features it has added to make up for the unusual B-pillar that moves with the rear doors on Neolun-equipped models. The company says that the body has a roll cage integrated into its reinforced cabin, creating something 50 percent more rigid than what it describes as a conventional vehicle. That, plus a world-first roof airbag, helps bring the pillar-less SUV in line with more typically-constructed cars in crash testing.AdvertisementAdvertisementExterior design is similar to the Neolun concept shown back in 2024, with door handle placement and bright metal shapes where a B-pillar would be serving as the biggest giveaways of a coach door model, and a more typical arrangement on the regular GV90. As with many other Genesis products, the company's signature two-line lighting treatment continues from the grille along the front fenders—and, in this case, follows the G90 in even going past the car's front wheels.GenesisGenesis says that the GV90 is built on a flagship-specific platform called eMP, making this an EV-only model for the immediate future. A sizable 123.5-kWh battery provides what Genesis estimates is a 310-mile range for the three-row model, and the company claims that a 350-kW fast charger can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes. The dual-motor powertrain sends 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, and an electronic limited-slip differential for each motor helps distribute the power to each individual wheel as needed. A multi-chamber air suspension provides the versatility for both a comfortable ride and necessary stiffness while cornering, while rear-wheel steering of up to five degrees helps with maneuverability.GenesisGenesis has not announced pricing for either the GV90 or the GV90 Neolun, but it has announced that a limited number of early models will be an exclusive GV90 Neolun First Edition. These cars are the four-seaters complete in one of three Genesis-set specs, all of which match a two-toned exterior with a different brightly-colored interior from the brand's range of options, including shades of purple, green, and a bright brown that borders on orange. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
