Switch Mobility says that this fleet marks India’s largest electric bus export to Mauritius. India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, handed over the final batch of 90 units to the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr Navin Ramgoolam.Switch Mobility secured the order through an open tender floated by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), which in turn is a joint venture of public sector undertakings (PSUs) under India’s Ministry of Power. The National Transport Corporation (NTC), the state-owned public transport operator of Mauritius, operates the new electric buses and recharges them at night from 9 p.m. to avoid straining the power grid.Switch Mobility fulfilled the government order using its 12-metre electric bus – the EiV12. The company has developed four versions of this model: intercity, low-floor, staff transport, and tarmac. Depending on the version, the 12-metre electric bus can accommodate up to 63 passengers and travel more than 300 kilometres on a single charge.Commenting on the new milestone, Switch Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said: “The completion of this 100-bus delivery marks an important milestone in strengthening the country’s transition to electric mobility, with tangible benefits for urban efficiency, environmental sustainability, and everyday commuter experience”.Switch Mobility is a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group’s commercial vehicle manufacturing arm, Ashok Leyland. During Ashok Leyland’s Q3 FY2026 earnings conference call in February, MD and CEO Shenu Agarwal revealed that the Mauritius fleet represented the first export order for the company. In the same month, Switch Mobility secured an order for 45 electric buses from Bhutan . The Bhutanese government expects to put the entire fleet into operation by the end of this year.
