Proton continues its international expansion with the launch of the eMas 7 in Mauritius. The electric SUV, distributed by the Autonexx Group, arrives in the island nation in the same Prime and Premium variants as in Malaysia, priced at 1,690,000 rupees (RM157,500) and 1,850,000 rupees (RM172,100) respectively.
The first 30 customers – ten of which already received their cars at the launch ceremony in Port Louis – will receive a wallbox charger and a free card to access the country’s E-motion charging network. Those who purchase the Premium will additionally benefit from a five-year/150,000 free service package. A six-year/150,000 km warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty come standard.
While production of the eMas 7 has already begun at Proton’s new EV plant in Tanjong Malim, the right-hand-drive units headed to Mauritius are currently being taken from the existing CBU fully-imported stock from China. The national carmaker does say that the factory, which has an eventual annual capacity of 45,000 units, is central to its export targets of 12,000 units next year and 250,000 by 2035.
As per the Malaysian spec, the eMas 7 is powered by a single front motor producing 218 PS (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds (7.1 seconds for the Premium). The Prime utilises a 49.52 kWh Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the 60.22 kWh pack in the Premium boosts range to 410 km.
Proton added it has now delivered over 6,500 units of the eMas 7 both domestically and abroad. The car is now its third most popular export model, behind only the X50 and Saga.
“The introduction of the e.MAS 7 in Mauritius forms part of Proton’s ongoing strategy to expand its EV portfolio across global markets. Each new entry strengthens our international presence and reflects PROTON’s capability to deliver vehicles that balance technology, performance and value,” said Proton International Corporation (PICSB) CEO Edward Lim Meng Thong. “The EV plant in Tanjong Malim will enable Proton to develop the next generation of electric models for the world.”
