Proton has released its March 2026 sales figures and it shows that they sold 646 units of the Proton eMas 7 PHEV last month, which is the new model’s first full month of sales. The plug-in hybrid sister of the eMas 7 EV was launched on February 4. The eMas 7 PHEV’s fast start means that last month, sales of the plug-in hybrid was more than double that of the eMas 7 EV, which found 306 registrations. Of course, they pale in comparison to the 2,071 units of the eMas 5, which is now Malaysia’s most popular EV in sales. All contributed to the Proton eMas brand’s March 2026 total of 3,023 units. “We are humbled by the warm reception Malaysians have given Proton eMAS since the brand was launched in 2024. Our community outreach programme to expose Malaysians to EV technology and our products as well as build trust in our efforts to support customers with a dealer comprehensive network and easily accessible charging infrastructure are now paying dividends. The proof is in the sales numbers achieved and our target is to make Proton eMAS the number one new energy vehicle brand in 2026,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of Pro-Net. Separately, Pro-Net announced that the eMas 7 PHEV has racked up over 4,900 bookings as of yesterday. The eMas 7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-pot engine with 99 PS/125 Nm, which is combined with a 218 PS/262 Nm electric motor for total system output of 262 PS/262 Nm. Prime and Premium variants come with an 18.4-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL for a pure electric range of 83 km, or 943 km combined. The top Premium Plus variant gets a 29.8-kWh Geely Aegis short blade LFP battery for 146 km EV range and a combined range of 996 km. For charging, the smaller battery’s max DC charging rate is 30 kW, and going from 30-80% state of charge takes under 20 minutes. The Aegis battery can handle up to 60 kW charging, taking SoC from 30-80% in under 16 minutes. AC charging maxes out at 7 kW. Performance wise, the Prime/Premium does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds, while the Premium Plus is two tenths of second slower. The eMas 7 PHEV Prime kicks off the range at RM109,800 on-the-road without insurance, followed by the Premium at RM123,800. The Premium Plus retails for RM129,800. With the RM4,000 launch rebate, the RRPs are down to RM105,800, RM119,800 and RM125,800 respectively. Proton announced a new Emerald Green colour yesterday to make it six paint options in total.
