Sporty luxury from South Korea: Genesis is launching its new performance range with the GV60 Magma, focusing on electric driving pleasure with 650 hp. Genesis/dpaSouth Korean luxury car brand Genesis has launched a high-performance Magma series to rival the likes of Mercedes-AMG and BMW's M division, with the electric GV60 Magma going on sale in Europe from €85,990, the manufacturer announced in May.Genesis is the upmarket arm of South Korean automotive group Hyundai and the Magma series marks the brand's first foray into performance tuning. The GV60 Magma costs around €10,000 more than the previous top-of-the-range model and replaces its 490 hp (360 kW) setup with two motors producing a combined 650 hp (484 kW).AdvertisementAdvertisementThat output accelerates the SUV coupé to 100 km/h in just over three seconds and gives it a top speed of 264 km/h. The bodywork has been sharpened up with larger sills and skirts and a prominent rear spoiler. To add an emotional dimension to what is otherwise a rather clinical electric drivetrain, Genesis has programmed a bespoke artificial soundtrack. The car also features a virtual gearstick with simulated torque interruption and a rev limiter, as well as a range of special driving modes including a drift mode.Anyone who finds all of this familiar is not mistaken: the technical underpinnings of the luxury brand's first performance model come from parent company Hyundai, which supplies them via the N versions of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
