On June 22, smart officially unveiled the interior and vehicle architecture of the smart #2 concept. The vehicle was designed with the involvement of Mercedes-Benz’s design team and is built on the new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), a dedicated compact EV platform. It retains the two-door, two-seat layout that defined the original smart fortwo. smart fortwo In terms of dimensions, the smart #2 measures just 2.79 meters in length. Its turning diameter remains identical to the previous-generation EQ Fortwo at 6.95 meters, making it particularly well-suited for dense urban environments. Inside, the vehicle adopts a connected two-seat layout. The central section between the seats features a foldable structure that, when lowered, creates a unified visual design with the two seats. Window controls and door-lock switches are positioned above the folding section, while a circular pull-strap mechanism is used for window operation. smart #2 interior The design prioritizes space efficiency, allowing occupants to move laterally across the cabin and exit from either side when parked in tight spaces. The dashboard features an “S”-shaped curved design, while turbine-style air vents maintain styling cues associated with Mercedes-Benz interiors. Unlike previous smart models, which shared platforms capable of supporting both internal combustion and electric powertrains, the new #2 adopts a dedicated EV architecture. The platform improves interior packaging by extending the wheelbase and shortening the front and rear overhangs. Power comes from a 35.7 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC driving range of nearly 400 km. The vehicle supports DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes and is equipped with a multi-link independent rear suspension. smart #2 architecture The smart #2 concept made its global debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April. According to the company’s roadmap, the production version will be officially unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show in October and is scheduled to enter the market in 2027. Consistent with smart’s current product lineup, the model will be manufactured in China. smart #2 concept car at Beijing Auto Show 2026 In terms of pricing, the smart #2 is expected to start below €25,000 (approximately $28,600) in Europe. In China, pricing is expected to be around RMB 150,000 ($22,155). This would position the model well above entry-level micro EVs and more squarely within the premium urban compact car segment, creating a differentiated market positioning relative to models such as the Wuling Hongguang MINI EV and the BYD Seagull.
