With more than 34 million trucks sold since and as the best-selling vehicle of any kind, the No. 1 reason is clear: We trust F-Series pickup trucks.Trust is hard to earn, but Ford earned it with predictability, reliability, capability, and affordability. So, the fact that Ford's redesigning the F-150—the first time the design's been touched since 2014—is a big deal. It puts the "predictability" aspect to the test. If they go too crazy with the design, it can scare away loyal fans. If it's not different enough, it can also yield unfavorable reactions. So, Ford has to do it right.AdvertisementAdvertisementAfter seeing the updates to the 2027 Ford F-150 in person and taking it for a drive, I can tell you, they did it right. A new partnership with Carhartt adds some stylish new design options, upgraded engines and more affordable off-road-focused trims have been added and more accessibility-forward additions are coming. If you're eyeing an F-150, this is what else you need to know. This story is 100% human-researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experience and expertise on the subject of cars and trucks. I was Ford's guest for this reveal, but all opinions and impressions are my own. What's New in the 2027 Ford F-150?2027 Ford F-150 Raptor strikes hard in Neptune Blue! Credit: Allison BarfieldThe Ford F-150 has been redesigned to deliver a tougher look based on driver feedback to provide exactly what fans want. Ford has added distinct grille and wheel designs for the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models, based on drivers' requests for a more modern look while staying true to a truck trusted for hard work and towing. The work-ready XLT trim builds on its work-ready reputation for practical strength with a new 20" wheel design. Also, the Lariat has a fresh split-grille design with projected LED bezel lamps. But arguably, the best upgrades are featured with the off-roading trims. The Ford Tremor and F-150 Raptor are available in alluring trim-specific shades, like Nature Blue, and are now more affordable, though pricing hasn't been announced yet.AdvertisementAdvertisementFor example, you can get the 2027 Ford F-150 Tremor based on the STX trim with manual air conditioning instead of DualZone climate control, a fixed rear window instead of the power-sliding one, a six-speaker audio system instead of the Bang & Olufsen setup, no heated seats, and no running boards. This allows for more aftermarket customization and reduces the overall price by $5,300.The 2027 Ford F-150 Raptor will be less expensive, too, reducing pricing by $4,000. It deletes the head-up display, fog lamps, 2Kw Pro Power OnBoard capability, Mobile Office package, power passenger seat, and under-seat storage. Also, the power-adjustable steering has been replaced by a manual steering column, and the 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen system is reduced to an 8-speaker setup. Can We Drool Over the Ford F-150 Carhartt Package? The 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt Trucks are looking fly Credit: Allison BarfieldFord and Carhartt are two American companies that have been in Detroit for decades, providing workers with reliable gear and equipment to get the job done. This isn't a new partnership, as Carhartt and Ford have been in collaboration since the 1920s. Carhartt provided gear for workers and contributed to racing teams. The 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt Package builds upon the long-lasting partnership by building an interior to reflect the materials, textures, and quality that both brands share. It's rugged, comfortable, and durable to stand up to daily needs, from towing a trailer from the construction site to relaxing at the weekend campsite.AdvertisementAdvertisementLike the original canvas jackets, the work-ready two-tone gray and tan upholstery shares a classic style with the signature triple stitch finish. It ties in with the unique steering wheel design and covered center console. The logo is subtly placed throughout the cabin on the seats and all-weather floor mats for hard-working quality you can see and feel. However, this fabric is automotive-grade and fireproof to stand up to long days and every element. The Carhartt Partnership Goes Beyond a Name DropThe 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt Interior matches the classic work wear Creadit: Allison BarfieldNext, the exterior rides on unique 20-inch wheels that pair with distinct Carhartt fender badges. A rugged textured stripe runs along the body with a tailgate graphic that's complemented by a spray-in bedliner and stamped Carhartt graphic for performance-inspired protection. The signature hood cowl, grille, running boards, and dual exhaust provide a confident sense of genuine workforce capability. The Carhartt package builds upon the hard-working 4×4 XLT Crew Cab models for $4,195. The Ford F-150 Carhartt starts with a $62,660 MSRP that includes destination and delivery fees. The 2027 Ford F-150's Power is a Bit DifferentThe upscale 2027 Ford F-150 Lariat is RED hot Credit: Allison BarfieldSay goodbye to the 2.7-liter V6 engine with 325 hp and 400 torque; it's being replaced by the 3.0-liter V6 EcoBoost engine as the new standard option. However, its power and economy ratings in the F-150 haven't been released yet. In the Ford Explorer, it provides 400 hp and 415 torque. It's safe to expect the truck to have punchier acceleration and a smoother feeling as it gets up to speed.AdvertisementAdvertisementThen there's the 5.0-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 410 torque to consider. This engine is available with the King Ranch and Platinum trims for the first time since 2023. Also, it's available across the entire lineup.Next, we have the 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 400 hp and 500 torque. It's the one you want for towing, with the ability to pull up to 13,500 pounds. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6 engine is paired with a battery to produce 430 hp and 570 torque. It's my favorite for daily driving as it's fast, smooth, and quiet. It's EPA-rated to get up to 22 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, but I hovered around 25 mpg combined during my week with one.Hands-Free BlueCruise Towing is Officially HereFord F-150 BlueCruise Towing let's you haul hands-free! Credit: Allison BarfieldFord fans already get to enjoy the BlueCruise hands-free driving feature that makes longer jaunts down the highway a lot more relaxing. But the 2027 Ford F-150 takes things to the next level with BlueCruise towing at no extra cost to the regular subscription. So, you can go hands-free with your boat, RV, or trailer in tow.AdvertisementAdvertisementI know what you're thinking: towing without your hands on the wheel sounds insane. But BlueCruise is available on over 130,000 miles of mapped roads, and it has been put through rigorous testing on the roads and with a driving simulator to respond to trailer movements and sway in everyday situations.I got behind the wheel and noticed that without BlueCruise, I was constantly adjusting the wheel back and forth to stay in my lane. Then, with the feature turned on, I could sit back, and it actually felt safer and more in control. It effectively managed the pull from semi-trucks while making passes and only operated under safe circumstances. For example, if it notices that you have a tire pressure warning on, you can't use the system until your tires are properly aired up. Around construction zones, you're required to place your hands on the wheel until you've safely cleared the site. It really takes the pressure off as you can sit back and focus on the road instead of constantly worrying about your trailer.Overall, the 2027 Ford F-150's makeover is designed to give drivers exactly what they asked for, including a more aggressive style, more accessibility to trim levels without sacrificing capability, rugged interior style, and smarter tech. Maybe best of all are the pricing options, especially in the off-road trims, giving buyers more of what they want.
