GSP Adds Broncos to Fleet to Patrol beachGeorgia Department of Public Safety / InstagramGeorgia's bicycle-friendly Jekyll Island doesn't have a single traffic signal, but it does have 10 miles of shoreline, and the Georgia State Patrol is responsible for policing all of it. As part of that effort, two Ford Broncos have just reported for duty to help troopers cover everything from public roads and residential neighborhoods to sandy beaches. The Georgia Department of Public Safety announced the Broncos' arrival on social media last week. Although the department hasn't revealed their exact trim or powertrain, they appear to be Badlands models. If so, they should be well suited to their unusual new beat. The Bronco Badlands comes equipped with Ford's HOSS (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) System 2.0, seven G.O.A.T. Modes (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain), and a front stabilizer-bar disconnect. That should be more than enough hardware to help troopers reach just about any part of the island. Steel bumpers, a push bar, a WARN winch, Georgia State Patrol livery, and emergency lighting complete the look.Jekyll Island doesn't allow visitors to drive on the beach, but law enforcement still needs to patrol there. Troopers are responsible for everything from traffic enforcement to responding to incidents on and around the beach. So, while a Ford Mustang might be great for chasing down speeders, it is less than ideal when the road turns to sand. The Georgia State Patrol hasn't said whether the Broncos replace existing vehicles or simply expand the Jekyll Island fleet. Either way, they look like the appropriate police vehicles for the job.Police departments use everything from pickup trucks to exotic sports cars, but few patrol vehicles seem better matched to their assignment than these Broncos. Jekyll Island may not have traffic lights or many opportunities for a high-speed pursuit, but it does have plenty of places where pavement simply does not exist. In this environment, off-road capability is far more useful than a high top speed. And for the troopers, beach patrol in a new Bronco certainly beats sitting in highway traffic. If You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
