Image Credit: @Ms_Peeh/TikTokA husband in a TikTok video voiced his pain after he went to fill up a Ford Raptor pickup truck he recently bought and saw the cost of a full tank of gas for the first time. Pele Doly (@Ms_Peeh) filmed her husband filling up the pickup truck at a gas station.Signs of trouble are evident at the start of the video, with the number already at $98 on the pump as Doly's husband watches it rise even higher. "POV: your husband's first time filling up his Raptor," Doly wrote in the video's text overlay. The caption of her video simply reads, "He wanted the Raptor, now he gotta feed it." Gas prices have risen a lot over the last few months, mainly driven by the war in Iran. So that will almost certainly make the cost of refuelling this truck even worse than it perhaps normally would be.Several viewers of the video said that the husband should throw the Raptor away, given how expensive fuel had become. But it is something that motorists all over America are facing, and the prices of gasoline show no signs of slowing down. How Expensive Was It To Refuel the Ford?As we see at the start of the video, the fuel bill has already reached the $98 mark. As it continues to go higher and higher, it finally clicks past $123, and Doly's husband simply looks at her in disbelief. That reaction suggested he did not expect the fuel bill to be that much, but that is the reality of owning and driving a car in 2026.As of September 28th, 2026, gas prices in the United States have skyrocketed. At that time, they were around $4.465 per gallon, a jump of around 30 cents from two weeks prior. Gas prices can vary across the country, with some states even pushing $5.467 per gallon. Diesel prices are even worse, and over in the UK, they have reached a new record high. People have been calling for action to help keep prices as low as possible. What didn't help Doly's husband is that the fuel economy of a truck like the F-150 Raptor isn't exactly mind-blowing. For example, if you own the F-150 Raptor R, you are looking at just 10 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on the highway. If you have the V6 option, it's not much better, at just 15-16 mpg in the city and on the highway, respectively. If you buy the Ranger Raptor, you might get 17 mpg on average, but it is still a far cry from what a regular sedan could do.Are Any Pickup Trucks Good on Gas Mileage?Image Credit: FordIf you don't want the high-end, ultra-performance pickup truck in your garage, you can find a truck with better gas mileage. For example, the Ford Maverick is an excellent choice, and it still offers all the practicality benefits that come with owning a pickup. If you opt for the front-wheel-drive hybrid model, you can get 42 mpg in the city, and the all-wheel-drive version offers 40 mpg.Unsurprisingly, viewers of Doly's TikTok urged her husband to ditch such a fuel-hungry vehicle simply. "That Raptor would be going back to the Jurassic because ain't no way," one said. "Should've done $30 and drove back to the dealership," another said. Someone else said, "Soon as it's on E trade that ... in."Getting a fuel-hungry Raptor pickup truck in the current climate maybe wasn't the smartest idea in the world. But when they offer so much power and performance, it's easy to see why people would want a Ford Raptor pickup. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
