The system puts navigation, towing information, vehicle controls, entertainment, and driver-assistance graphics into a cleaner digital environment, then leaves room for physical controls where they still make more sense.GM is starting with its biggest audience. The automaker reported 362,909 U.S. deliveries of light-duty Silverado trucks and 230,156 light-duty Sierra deliveries in 2025, for a combined 593,065 pickups. Across all Silverado and Sierra variants, including HD, medium-duty, and EV models, GM sold 588,709 and 356,218 trucks, respectively. GM also led the U.S. full-size-pickup market for the sixth straight year, with combined Silverado and Sierra sales reaching their strongest level in two decades.A Digital Dashboard That Understands the JobThe home screen features a dual-panel design, where one section prominently displays an interactive map, and the other can provide media content, fuel efficiency details, vehicle diagnostics, or information about trailers. GM says high-contrast displays will produce darker blacks, more saturated colors, and clearer depth for maps, entertainment, and vehicle information.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe driver display changes according to the task. Towing, off-road driving, and Super Cruise each receive their own presentation, with animations designed to reflect what the truck is doing. When Super Cruise is activated, the system can render a 3D view that illustrates surrounding vehicles, lane lines, and various road features.That graphic is to be used purely as a visual aid, it says in the legal jargon. GM's safety guidance still requires the driver to monitor traffic, weather, road conditions, and the vehicle's surroundings. Super Cruise also requires an active plan or trial, applies only where permitted, and must be used according to local laws.GM's Michael Wahlstrom, executive director of software product management, said, "Our light-duty pickups are our highest-volume vehicles, which allows us to bring this new UI to a lot of customers quickly." He also added: "The fully interactive home screen is where we expect most people to live."Drivers can customize shortcut controls for climate, audio, cameras, and other frequently used functions. A Quick Access window puts important settings one tap away, while physical controls remain available. GM human-interface executive Sebastian Bauer said: "Some of those functions can be well implemented through touchscreen controls, while others are more intuitive with physical controls."AdvertisementAdvertisementIncoming calls and messages occupy a smaller portion of the display instead of replacing the entire screen. After answering, a call timer stays at the top, allowing the driver to keep using navigation or other home-screen features. GM also combines Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with native truck applications, so phone content can appear beside trailering or vehicle-status information. Compatible phones, apps, and data plans are required.The Useful Parts Live in the Trailer MenuGM has prioritized towing within the software, integrating it as a key feature rather than relegating it to a sub-menu. Once a trailer is connected, the display adapts automatically to present towing metrics on the main screen and modifies the instrument panel to reflect the movement dynamics between the truck and trailer.The setup features Hitch View, which assists in aligning the coupler without needing an extra person, along with underbody cameras that help identify obstacles when navigating through challenging environments. Off-road data also appears on the center screen. GM says it remains the only automaker offering hands-free trailering through Super Cruise, a capability introduced for the 2022 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, and Hummer EV Pickup.A smartphone-enabled trailer light check allows users to verify the functionality of running lights, brake lights, reverse lights, and turn signals without having to repeatedly go back and forth between the cab and the trailer. That is the kind of feature that sounds minor until you are standing in a campground parking lot wondering whether the left turn signal works.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe comprehensive software suite encompasses Google Gemini, Google Maps, a wide array of Google Play apps, and truck features supported by OnStar. A passenger display can run Amazon Music, AMC+, DIRECTV, Disney+, Hulu, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Tubi, TuneIn, ViX, YouTube, and YouTube Kids. Polarized screen technology keeps that content visible to the passenger while the truck is moving.GM plans to use the same scalable foundation across electric, gasoline, and diesel vehicles, eventually expanding it beyond these pickups. Over-the-air updates are also intended to add features, improve performance, and revise the way functions work during ownership. The first 2027 Sierra trucks were expected at dealerships before the end of 2026, while Chevrolet said Silverado pricing and availability would arrive later in the year.The real change is not a larger screen for its own sake. It is the attempt to make a truck's software respond to towing, terrain, passengers, and driver preferences without turning every task into a hunt through menus. For GM, the cabin is becoming another mechanical system to tune. About time.
