Scout Has a Special Edition Before It's On SaleScout MotorsThe fervor surrounding Scout Motors has died down a bit these days, as potential customers and fans alike continue to wait for the VW subsidiary's SUVs and pickup trucks to finally enter production. Not having any cars to sell isn't a reason to stop your designers from coming up with unique takes on said planned products, however. As America celebrates its semiquincentennial this summer, the automaker has looked to the past to create what it calls the "Scout Motors Spirit of '26."This red, white, and blue SUV's roots trace back to a time when the Scout badge was under the International Harvester banner. Back in 1976, the U.S. Ski Team needed transportation around the snow-covered landscapes of Innsbruck, Austria, during the Winter Olympics. International Harvester stepped up to the plate, providing the athletes with a fleet of 17 Scout Traveler and 1976 Scout II Traveltop models, all emblazoned with appropriately patriotic liveries.Scout MotorsThose Ski Patrol vehicles stirred up all sorts of attention for the automaker, which ultimately opted to create a production version just in time for the USA's bicentennial celebrations. Known as the "Spirit of '76" package, this setup brought a star-spangled-banner-inspired livery, a Wedgwood Blue interior, a blue roll bar, and a denim-hued soft top. A hardtop version of the SUV with slightly more flexibility in terms of wheelbase and powertrains options was also crafted, and known as the "Patriot."50 years later, Scout Motors is tapping into the American spirit once more with this latest design concept. The setup itself isn't a direct pull from the original SUV, instead using the brand's Rallye graphics layout as the basis for the design. A white base coat is offset with the red and blue accents, which wrap nicely around the upper midsection of the truck. There are a few Easter eggs scattered within the design itself, including a combine plowing a field—a nod to the International Harvester roots. Overall, it's a nice-looking truck, which makes it all the more frustrating that you can't buy one.Scout MotorsScout Motors has a partial solution to this problem, however. Along with the concept SUV, the brand has unveiled a new lineup of patriotic merchandise inspired by the original Spirit of '76, with a few t-shirts, a pair of Igloo coolers, and even a retro-style baseball cap. (You can check the wares out for yourself at the link here.) As far as the truck goes, the brand is still aiming to start production in 2027, or possibly 2028; for now, the Scout website states that "Initial production [is] targeted for 2027, subject to change." Personally, I'm not sure that this package concept is gonna be as relevant once the production lines actually fire up.You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
