The San Marino Motor Classic celebrated its 15th year Sunday with 332 cars on 30 acres of beautiful Lacy Park in sunny San Marino, Claifornia, a place that was old money when Beverly Hills was lima bean fields (no lie, look it up). San Marino has everything from the grand old juggernauts of the Classic Car Club of America to muscle cars, restomods, Volkswagens, Porsches, Ferraris (a few), to some guy way off in a corner under a tree who brought a 1961 Lancia Appia. It’s all here. And this year no one died of heat stroke. Technically, no one died last year, either, but last year it was held in August in the hopes of luring Pebble Beach entries, which it did, but it also kept people away who just didn’t want to deal with the blazing hot 100-degree sun. This year’s temps peaked at just 84 degrees under sunny skies. Maybe someone could invent something to complain about but there was really nothing, just the widest variety of cars in the most beautiful setting south of Pebble, unless you count the La Jolla Concours that was held two months before on a spectacular clifftop location overlooking the beautiful blue pacific. But La Jolla is only 5.6 acres and so doesn’t have room for San Marino’s 300+ cars.Anyway, here are our favorites. 1931 Duesenberg Model J Weymann 'Tapertail' SpeedsterThe 1931 Duesenberg Model J Weymann 'Tapertail' Speedster is from the William Lyon Family, which maintains the Lyon Air Museum in Orange COunty, Calif.
