The Tesla Model 3 is still the most American-made car in 2026.TeslaThe Tesla Model 3 is the most American-made vehicle, and has been for the past six years, according to Cars.com's latest American-Made Index.The 21st annual AMI, released Tuesday, ranks all consumer vehicles available in the U.S. that have some component of final assembly stateside. Cars.com looks at assembly location, parts sourcing, U.S. factory employment figures, engine and transmission sourcing.For 2026, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y took the top two slots. This was the Model Y's second year in the second-place slot. The Tesla models were the only electrified options to make the top 10. Tesla, which only makes EVs, is now based in Texas with another American factory in Fremont, California.AdvertisementAdvertisementOn the overall list, the number of EVs on the list dropped in 2026 with the end of the federal tax credit at the end of September. Last year the list had 11 pure-battery EVs, while this year had only five: the two Tesla models, Kia EV9 (17th place), Ioniq 5 (21st) and Cadillac Lyriq (77th). Several all-electric models dropped from the list like the Volkswagen ID.4, Kia EV6 and Ford F-150 Lightning.Including other electrified options like hybrids and plug-in hybrids saw a drop of 30% to 24% on the list. The lone PHEV on this year's list is the BMW X5 50e (69th place). Mild hybrids like the Toyota Camry (11th place) were more pervasive this year, peppered throughout the list.U.S.-based EV maker Rivian didn't qualify for the 2026 list with its R1S and R1T EVs, but with the release of its smaller R2 electric SUV this month Cars.com representatives expect to see it on next year's list.None of the 86 vehicles on this year's list are 100% American-made, but surprisingly the brand with the largest quantity of vehicles on the list was Japan's Toyota (and its luxury brand Lexus) with 14 cars. Honda (and its Acura brand) followed with 13.
