Image Credit: A K8/YouTubeSometimes, the word dramatic isn't quite enough to describe something. For example, this footage was captured on board a Tesla Model S on a German autobahn. The video has begun circulating on social media, showing the dramatic moment when the tire blew out. Some sections of the German autobahn don't have any speed limits. You are allowed to drive your car as fast as you want, within the limits of the car itself and whatever traffic is around you. In this instance, the Tesla Model S was driving at roughly 175mph.The car involved in the accident was a 2024 Model S that had traveled around 19,000km (11,000 miles) before the accident. The car was also running on Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport tires, which had been recalled in April 2026 due to a defect.According to a news report, the driver of this Tesla Model S did not know that the tires had been recalled. The report stated that the driver, who survived the crash, only heard about the recall after his accident. A video posted on YouTube shows the damage done to the Tesla. How Bad Was the Autobahn Accident? At the start of the video, everything seems to be going smoothly. The driver looks relaxed and happy, and the car is behaving. But as the speed increases, there is a sudden thud and a shudder. Before the driver can react, his Tesla is pitched sideways and up a grass bank on the autobahn. It comes back down and is quite clearly beyond repair, based on images shared after the accident video.Remarkably, the cabin the driver was in seems to have done its job. The reports state that the driver survived the accident without major injury, which is incredible given the violent nature of the accident and how fast the Tesla was going. The roof of the Tesla had properly caved in, and some sections of the car had been ripped off; it really was a complete mess.A user on X who shares a lot of Tesla-related news noted that the tires didn't look in very good condition and could have contributed to the accident. The tread certainly looked a bit suspect in places. In fact, a few fellow X users noted that the tires were likely the cause of the accident. But when digging deeper, it is the fact that this particular type of tire was recalled earlier in 2026 that makes the accident so concerning. The Goodyear Tires Had Been Recalled in April 2026Image Credit: A K8/YouTubeThe tires in question were the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport tires. However, a recall for the tires was issued in April 2026. They had been identified as having a sudden risk of delamination, where the tread separated from the frame of the tire. The driver of this particular Tesla supposedly only discovered the recall after the accident, by which point it was clearly too late to do anything about it.An important thing to note is that it isn't confirmed to have been a delamination of the tire. But as the images showed, the tires had a low tread pattern and overall did not look to be in good condition. With driving at such high speeds putting a lot of strain on the rubber, it's possible that this Tesla driver did suffer a delamination at 175mph.If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
