RivianRivian is turning its electric vehicles into a rolling ghost-hunting rig this Halloween, with Bill Murray back as Dr. Peter Venkman leading the charge.The California-based automaker is rolling out a Halloween software update for its R1 and R2 EVs. It adds Ghostbusters sound effects and visuals that owners can trigger from inside the vehicle or through the Rivian smartphone app. Rivian developed the update in partnership with Sony Pictures, which controls the franchise through its subsidiary, Columbia Pictures.RivianIn Rivian's promotional video, Murray, 76, plays the wisecracking ghost catcher once more, this time behind the wheel of a Rivian Ectomobile, otherwise known as the Ecto-1. He lures Slimer into a trap with the promise of a Hawaiian pizza, hold the onions, while showing off some of the update's seasonal features.The update reaches all eligible vehicles starting October 9. Drivers can pick from several soundscapes: Ecto-1, Proton Pack, Slimer, Ghost Trap, Peter Venkman, and Random.RivianCustom lock sounds are also available, though the options depend on the vehicle. First-generation R1S owners get the Ecto-1 sound. R2 and second-generation R1 drivers can choose between Ecto-1, Proton Pack, and Chant.The dashboard display gets a large red switch styled after a ghost containment unit. Flipping it controls the interior lighting, audio, and exterior lights and sounds all at once. The screen also shows the inside of your Ecto-1, complete with ghosts and characters hiding around the cabin.RivianTrick or Treat Mode kicks in the Ghostbusters theme song, along with flashing lights and sound effects. The charging screen also gets a slime-green redesign, and a neon-green ghoul swims along the bar that tracks your battery's charge level.Fans of the Mini-Pufts from Ghostbusters: Afterlife get a bonus: an in-car game called 'Mallow Mash.
