A Mississippi man replacing the brakes in his Mitsubishi using parts from AutoZone suddenly finds he’s using the wrong ones. TikTok creator Brad (@bradduncan8) posted a video that details the ordeal on March 22. To start the video, he says, "I'm doing brakes on my car, and I run into one of those moments, a stop-and-think-about-it moment." Brad says he went to AutoZone to get the pads and rotors he thought he needed before returning home. "I'm looking at the pads when I got everything apart on my car [and realize they were the] wrong pads," he says. Who Is To Blame For Brad Getting The Wrong Brake Pads? "My first thought is 'stupid kid at the AutoZone gave me the wrong pads,'" Brad says. "I get to looking ... AutoZone doesn't even carry the pads that are the style that are on my car. Nor does O'Reilly or anyone else in my local area." So the lesson that Brad is taking away is this: "Here it is. If I wouldn't have took a few seconds to think about it, I would've put all this back together, drove all the way back to town, raised holy terror, and been upset with a kid that was just following the information his computer was given. Sometimes it’s good to stop and think about it before you act." In the comments section of the video, one commenter said, "Mistake number one is driving a Mitsubishi. Asian cars can be notoriously hard to source parts at times." A second person said, "Parts stores aren't what they were pre-Covid." Why Can It Be Hard to Find The Right Mitsubishi Brake Pads? Brad isn’t the first person to run into this problem. A Reddit user posted to r/MechanicAdvice seven years ago while having trouble finding the correct size brake pads for his 2017 Outlander. Other than pure trial and error, most commenters suggested he look at the pads he just took off the car for clues. Another Outlander owner posted to Reddit’s r/JustRolledIntotheShop two years ago with a similar issue. After removing the rusted brake pads, the owner attempted to install a pair purchased from an auto parts retailer. But that job was held up when the new rotor didn't fit, and he had to go on a wild-goose chase to find one that did. And the one that ended up fitting was labeled as for the seven-passenger Outlander that he did not own. Users on this Mitsubishi owner forum post report having trouble finding the right aftermarket brake pads and rotors, and say they end up just going to the dealer to get their replacement jobs done.
