@erniedeangm/TikTokA veteran salesman at a Chevrolet dealership in Ontario was in shock after realizing they had been handed a 'unicorn' when a customer came in to trade in their car. But, this wasn't a flashy sports car or supercar, but something more akin to a daily driver that got this particular salesman very excited.Shawn O’Neill, sales manager for Ernie Dean Chevrolet Buick GMC (@erniedeangm on TikTok), said that for his dealership, unicorns are super rare trade-ins. Cars that they don't often get, or ones with lower mileage than the average, that they know they would be able to sell on for a tidy profit after it's traded in.In this particular instance, O'Neil was very excited when a customer turned up with a 2023 Buick Enclave Premium, which had been very lightly driven and had far fewer miles on the clock than he expected. That meant that this particular car could have a much higher value, and meant it could be sold to a new owner for more than higher mileage examples.AdvertisementAdvertisementWith the average mileage for these cars being around 37,000 miles, O'Neil was stunned to see that this 2023 Enclave Premium had less than 10,000 miles on the odometer. Meaning that in effect, this particular Buick was brand new, and too good an opportunity to pass up on.What Made This 2023 Buick Such a Special Car?According to O'Neil, most Enclave Premiums from 2023 come to the dealership with around 37,000 miles on the clock, or 60,000 kilometers. However, this one had just 15,000 kilometers, roughly 10,000 miles on the odometer. That made it a particularly special trade-in and a very rare big-value find for the Chevrolet dealership.“We refer to unicorns as super rare trade-ins. This trade we took in doesn't even make sense,” he said. O'Neil is very clever in the TikTok video at slowly giving us the big reveal, and teasing that it could be a supercar he's about to reveal. But while it might seem weird to get so excited over a 2023 Buick, the reasoning behind the excitement makes perfect sense. The bonus is that it has a naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter GM V6 under the hood, an engine slowly disappearing from family crossovers.Because of the low mileage on the car, O'Neil was able to price it higher than you would expect. “So, I’ve got it priced at $46,900 plus tax, which is the same price as most ‘24s,” he said in the TikTok. He then asks if he should price it closer to $50,000, but we think that this seems like a very fair price. It is cool to see something slightly different being labelled as a unicorn.Other Cars That You Would Call a UnicornHondaFor most people, the term unicorn car stands for something very rare, collectible, and often high-performance. For example, the Honda NSX-R, a special, track-focused version of the legendary supercar, would be one of those. Some have even called it Japan's version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. There are plenty of other cars that would fall under the unicorn bracket.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Nissan Nismo GT-R Z-Tune is another. Unveiled in 2005, it takes the R34 Skyline GT-R and adds a full Nismo parts catalog, with a Nismo-tuned RB26 engine under the hood called the Z2. Only 20 were ever produced. The legendary Chevrolet COPO Camaro Yenko, with the massive 7.0-liter 427ci V8 under the hood, would be another unicorn car. These are what you would normally expect when that term is used. Calling a 2023 Buick Enclave Premium a unicorn is certainly a different take on the segment. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don’t miss what’s coming next.
