After going through a tumultuous time in 2025, Nissan seems to be on an upswing. The company is betting big on new body-on-frame models for the United States, including a revived Xterra and a similar Infiniti SUV. The automaker is also prioritizing the Chinese market and is now unveiling a trio of vehicles at Auto China 2026.The most exciting of the bunch is the boxy, rugged-looking Terrano PHEV Concept, which imagines the look of an off-road-capable SUV. There's also the sleeker-looking Urban SUV PHEV Concept and the production-spec NX8 EV. A Closer Look At The Terrano PHEV Concept NissanNissan didn't reveal any technical specs about the Terrano PHEV Concept but provided lots of images of the vehicle's rugged exterior. In front, it has a chunky bumper with angled portions on the outer edges to maximize the SUV's off-road capability. The illuminated rectangles on the nose evoke the openings on the first-generation Pathfinder and Hardbody pickups from the 1980s. There's also a light-up "NISSAN" wordmark and rectangular headlights. The rugged appearance continues to the hood, where there's a three-element scoop, and lamps attach to the top of the fenders. The windshield is fairly upright and leads to a flat roof. A luggage rack with front-mounted illumination provides more space to carry cargo, and there's a ladder on the passenger side for easier access to the carrier. Boxy fender flares with black cladding give the Terrano concept a muscular stance.NissanThe back features a molded, body-color carrier for a full-size spare wheel that also incorporates the taillights. The rear bumper has a similar blocky aesthetic as the front. Sadly, Nissan didn't release any photos of the Terrano concept's interior. The Terrano PHEV Concept won't remain a show vehicle for long. According to Nissan's announcement, "Production versions of both concept cars are scheduled to be unveiled within one year." The model will be available "for selected global markets."One of those global markets might be the United States. The original Terrano was the foreign-market name for the SUV available in the US as the Pathfinder. Rumors indicate that the next-gen model might adopt a body-on-frame platform, which fits with what we're seeing from this concept. Without accessories such as the roof rack and auxiliary illumination, this rig has a shape that appears realistic for a production vehicle. The Urban SUV PHEV Concept NissanThe other concept in China is the Urban SUV PHEV. Nissan designed it for "young Chinese customers," and the shape follows the brand's styling language for future SUVs there. The vehicle features smooth, understated styling. In front, there are skinny headlights and bracket-shaped running lamps.NissanThe rear is uncluttered, with full-width taillights that wrap around the back fenders. Embossed curves around the wheels add a visual flourish, preventing the body from appearing too austere.Nissan isn't disclosing powertrain specifics, except that it would use "advanced electrification technology." A production version is on the way, and the company shouldn't have to change much to create a road-going version because the show vehicle already looks like something that could be on the road. The announcement only mentions selling it in China. We aren't expecting a version for the US because it would be too close to the failed Ariya EV.
