Visualisierung: MobileyeMobileye is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of autonomous driving. Founded in Jerusalem in 1999, the company went public in 2014 before being acquired by Intel in 2017. Intel later relisted Mobileye in 2022. Over the years, the company has established itself as a key technology supplier for automated driving systems. Its technology is integrated into the fully autonomous Volkswagen ID. Buzz AD, which MOIA plans to deploy in the US as a robotaxi on the Uber platform. Other customers using Mobileye’s autonomous robotaxi technology include Holon and Verne.Mobileye is now preparing to expand its role. While the company has so far focused exclusively on supplying technology, it plans to launch and operate its own driverless ride-hailing services. Mobileye refers to the approach as a vertically integrated robotaxi business. Under this model, the company would oversee the entire value chain, from vehicle architecture and sensor technology to AI software and fleet operations. The new business unit, which will complement the company’s existing supply business for car manufacturers, is scheduled to launch in a US city as early as 2027, though Mobileye has not yet disclosed which one. The plan is to combine Mobileye’s own autonomous driving technology, Mobileye Drive, with the mobility platform of its subsidiary Moovit. The robotaxi fleet in the US city will initially comprise around 100 vehicles. The rollout will take place gradually throughout the year to validate the operational model under fully autonomous conditions. Following the successful operation of the first fleet, Mobileye plans a significant expansion, targeting around 17,000 vehicles within the next five years.“The robotaxi revolution has only just begun, and its potential for transforming how we travel around the world continues to increase,” said Prof. Amnon Shashua, founder and chief executive officer of Mobileye. “As interest in autonomous mobility accelerates, the industry has become increasingly dependent on a small number of technology providers and business models. We believe there is an opportunity for a new approach—one built on deep autonomous-driving expertise, strong industry partnerships, and proven capabilities across the mobility ecosystem.”To complete its vertically integrated robotaxi platform, Mobileye is collaborating with vehicle platform manufacturers, fleet operators, vehicle integration partners, and key technology providers. This emerging ecosystem will enable Mobileye to operate autonomous mobility services under a unified business unit. The initiative will also expand Moovit’s strategy of helping users search, plan, and use transport services in complex urban environments. Moovit’s mobility platform serves over 1.7 billion users in more than 3,500 cities across 112 countries and 45 languages.mobileye.com
