Gasgoo Munich- On June 16, Mobileye announced plans to expand its Robotaxi footprint, moving beyond supplying autonomous driving technology to operating its own autonomous ride-hailing services.Image source: MobileyeSlated to launch in a U.S. city in 2027, the project marks a strategic upgrade for Mobileye. It aims to deliver a vertically integrated solution by combining industry-leading autonomous driving technology with fleet operations, passenger services, and mobility management.Mobileye plans to deploy roughly 100 autonomous vehicles to kick off operations in a major U.S. metropolis in 2027. The rollout will be phased to validate the entire operational model under fully driverless conditions. Once the initial fleet is stable, the company intends to scale up, targeting a fleet of around 17,000 vehicles within five years. This new venture builds on Mobileye’s existing business model. The company made it clear that while it continues to supply technology solutions to global automakers and mobility providers, it will add a self-operated division.Mobileye views its proprietary Robotaxi business as a complementary commercial pathway—one that should accelerate the real-world deployment of autonomous driving technology, accumulate operational experience, and further validate the scalability of its Mobileye Drive platform. Moving forward, customer partnerships and the proprietary fleet will advance in parallel.Under the new roadmap, Mobileye will leverage its Mobileye Drive system to integrate capabilities across the board—including its Moovit mobility platform and consumer apps, multi-modal trip planning, dispatch, fleet management, and remote assistance—to connect the full Robotaxi value chain. At the same time, Mobileye will collaborate with autonomous vehicle platform manufacturers, fleet operators, vehicle integration partners, and key technology suppliers. A unified business unit will oversee the construction and operation of its own ride-hailing service.
