Loder1899’s Off-Road Mustang Concept Is As Wild As It Sounds

Loder1899 is a German tuner that generally focuses on creating more rugged versions of the Land Rover Defender and Ford Transit. Its latest creation is a wild, off-road-spec take on the latest Mustang. For now, the vehicle exists only in renderings, but the company appears to be gauging interest in building a production version.

The tuner calls this concept the Thomas Crown Mustang. The name is a reference to the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair film starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. During a scene in the movie, these characters drive around in a roofless, off-road-capable original Mustang (embedded below). Think of it as a 911 Dakar for pony car fans.

Loder1899’s Thomas Crown Mustang Concept

Loder1899 would need to extensively modify a modern Mustang to put its Thomas Crown concept into production. The entire roof is gone. Instead, a roll bar takes the place of the C-pillar, and there are four spotlights on top of it. There’s even more auxiliary illumination on the grille. A full-sized spare wheel is on a custom carrier on the rear deck.

Don’t expect to go deep into the wilderness in this machine, but it could be fun on prepared trails or dunes.

Like the car in the movie, the Thomas Crown Mustang concept is dark green with white stripes over the hood, sides, and rear deck. The company’s renderings suggest this car would sit significantly higher than a stock example of the pony car, which is important when going off-road to avoid scraping vital components against rocks, roots, or other obstacles. The broader fenders cover BF Goodrich all-terrain tires wrap around a set of black 10-spoke wheels.

Beyond what’s visible in these photos, Loder1899 isn’t providing any technical details about its Thomas Crown Mustang Concept. However, tuners are showing that the model’s Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 is receptive to tuning. Hennessey strapped a supercharger to the powerplant and created an 850-horsepower vehicle. Shelby opted for a similar forced induction recipe for its 830-hp GT350. Plus, Ford’s own Mustang GTD produces 815 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque from a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8.

The Latest Mustang

The 2025 Ford Mustang is still quite a fresh product, coming off a premiere for the 2024 model. However, it still seems to be struggling to find buyers. As of February 2025, the automaker had moved 5,191 of them since the beginning of the year, which was down from 7,886 examples in the same period in 2024. The Mustang Mach-E electric SUV actually outsold the combustion-powered coupe during the month.

Loder1899 has a neat idea for creating an off-road-capable Mustang. Judging from the vehicle’s renderings, this is a vehicle that could appeal to wealthy folks who are looking for a fun off-roader. Don’t expect to go deep into the wilderness in this machine, but it could be fun on prepared trails or dunes.
