LiuGong’s 30-ton electric excavator promises 10-hour runtime, lower costs than dieselChinese equipment maker LiuGong says its newest electric excavator isn't just a cleaner alternative to diesel machines, it claims the battery-powered version actually outperforms them in daily use. The company is now bringing that excavator to North American job sites for the first time. The 924FE weighs in as a roughly 30-ton machine, translating to about 27 tonnes in metric terms. It made its global debut last May before LiuGong confirmed the North American rollout this month. That expands a lineup that already includes smaller electric models sold in the US market.Ten hours per chargePower comes from a 528 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery feeding a 115 kW (about 155 hp) electric motor built by Weiteli. LiuGong says that setup delivers up to 10 hours of continuous runtime. That's enough to cover a full working shift without needing a midday charge in most job site conditions.AdvertisementAdvertisementFor crews running around the clock, LiuGong says the battery can go from 15 percent to full charge in under three hours. Working the math in reverse suggests a 10 to 80 percent charge could take under 90 minutes on a 300 kW DC fast charger. That's roughly the time it takes to close out logbooks during a shift change.Swappable batteries, shared partsOperators who cannot spare even that much downtime have another option. LiuGong also offers a battery swap version of the 924FE on its global lineup. The same 528 kWh battery pack is compatible with several other pieces of LiuGong's electric heavy equipment. That shared design simplifies spare parts and charging logistics across a mixed fleet of machines.Inside the cab, operators get standard excavator controls alongside a 10-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera coverage, and a heated air-suspension seat. A reverse-spinning cooling fan makes cleaning debris out of the machine easier. LED work lights with a delayed shutoff help operators move safely in low light or bad weather.Lower costs, longer warrantiesLiuGong says its US-market electric equipment can cut operating costs by 40 to 50 percent compared to similar diesel machines. The company points to lower fuel spending, reduced maintenance needs, and fewer replacement parts as the main drivers behind those savings across a typical fleet.AdvertisementAdvertisementBeyond the direct cost cuts, quieter electric machines can also improve operator retention and reduce sick days tied to noise and fume exposure. Those additional savings often go unmeasured on a spec sheet, but they can add up across a large fleet over time. LiuGong backs its electric powertrains with a five-year or 10,000-operating-hour warranty on the battery and motor, plus a separate three-year or 4,000-hour warranty covering the complete machine. Those terms mirror the coverage LiuGong already offers on its other North American electric equipment.
