Customers can choose between a conventional diesel powertrain or a fully electric configuration when placing an order. “This flexibility allows mining companies to align their equipment selection with regulatory requirements and site-specific conditions,” Komatsu states.According to the specifications, the electric version is equipped with two motors, each delivering 1,700 kW of power. This performance is critical, as the PC9000-12 can reach an operating weight of up to 896 tonnes, depending on the configuration. The excavator measures over ten metres in width and ten metres in height.Rather than focusing on drive specifics, the announcement emphasises the PC9000-12’s size and utility. The new model boasts the largest bucket volume, greatest reach, and highest digging force in the PC series. These features are designed to deliver “optimized cycle times, increased output and reduced production costs.”The PC9000-12 is available worldwide in both backhoe and shovel configurations, equipped with either a 46 m³ backhoe bucket or a 49 m³ shovel. For instance, with a payload of over 80 tonnes per bucket, it can load a Komatsu 980E dump truck in just five cycles in less than 150 seconds. Under optimal conditions, the manufacturer promises a production output of around 8,000 tonnes per hour.“Representing the next evolution in our product lineup, the PC9000-12 sets a new benchmark for global surface mining operations,” says Peter Buhles, Vice President of Sales & Service. “With its versatile configurations – including face shovel and backhoe, as well as diesel and electric drive options – we can efficiently serve all major mining operations worldwide. The PC9000-12 delivers the power, performance and reliability our customers expect, while supporting higher productivity, lower emissions per ton and seamless integration with autonomous haulage systems.”komatsu.eu
