It is a facelift of the Lynk & Co Z20 that will sell in China under the Lynk & Co 20 name. The mentioned electric drive was revealed on July 16 with the highest efficiency of 93.8%. During the event, Geely Auto officials shared that the Geely Galaxy TT sporty sedan got the new electric drive. However, this vehicle has yet to start sales domestically. On July 17, Geely’s middle-to-high-end brand Lynk & Co revealed that the updated Z20 will be the industry-first car to enter the market with the new powertrain element. Credit: Geely The new 16-in-1 electric drive, nicknamed Thunder, integrates 12 hardware elements: electric motor, motor controller, reducer, DC-DC converter, OBC, PDU, HBMS, LBMS, VCU, TMS, active pre-charge control, and power domain gateway. It also adopts four software capabilities: energy management, charging management, motion control, and health management. According to Geely, the high-voltage wiring of this electric drive was reduced by 30%. The longer the wire, the higher the resistance. It results in higher energy losses. Shorter wiring means improved overall energy efficiency. The overall height of the Thunder electric drive is below 325 mm. It frees up space for new tech like steer-by-wire. Moreover, trunk and frunk capacity could be increased. The control system of the 16-in-1 electric drive is reduced from 40 to 2 milliseconds. Another benefit is energy efficiency. Previously, Geely officials shared that the Galaxy TT sedan achieved an energy consumption of 8.20 kWh per 100 km, breaking a Guinness World Record. The integrated design also allowed reducing over 180 parts in total, cutting the production costs. However, if a failure occurs in this element, the repair cost will be significantly higher. It is worth noting that usually electronic modules like OBC, a DC-DC converter, and a high-voltage distribution box are integrated into a separate module due to different lifespans. So, when a charging module fails, it could be easily replaced without disassembling the motor and reducer. The updated Lynk & Co 02 (Lynk & Co 20) According to Lynk & Co, the new 02 fastback crossover will be the first vehicle to feature a 16-in-1 electric drive on the rear axle. It will feature a 245 kW (329 hp) electric motor with an efficiency of 93%. It was previously revealed that the new Lynk & Co 02 will feature an 800V high-voltage system and a 6C fast-charging technology. It will enter the market in Q3 2026. At the same time, the updated Lynk & Co 02 got a slightly redesigned exterior styling with new bumpers and a sporty roof spoiler. Its dimensions are 4495/1845/1573 mm with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. There is no information about the car’s battery, range, and energy consumption. According to China EV DataTracker, cumulative domestic deliveries of the first generation of this model have reached 48,691 units since the launch in December 2024.
