Footage shared on Weibo appears to show a Lynk & Co 900 on fire in Hangzhou. The local brand has blamed the fire on a portable power bank under the SUV. Local authorities are yet to conclude their investigation into the small fire. Another day and another fire involving an electrified vehicle in China. However, if local brand Lynk & Co is to be believed, it’s not actually a fault with the vehicle’s engine, fuel tank, or battery pack that triggered the blaze. Footage recently captured on a street in Hangzhou, China, shows a blacked-out Lynk & Co 900 with a small fire emanating from beneath it. As you can probably imagine, this prompted speculation that the model had randomly caught fire while parked. If this were the case, it’d be rather troubling, especially given the fact that the big SUV doesn’t appear to have been plugged in or charging at the time. Things may not be as they initially seem, however. Weibo There’s no word on whether the power bank caught ablaze the moment it hit the pavement, or if it may have caught fire after being kicked under the SUV, but either way, the sight of a small blaze beneath the 900 isn’t a good look for the Chinese brand. Fortunately, a bystander appears to have extinguished the flames quickly, reportedly before the fire had a chance to spread to the SU7 itself. Had the Lynk & Co caught fire, it would have been an absolute PR disaster for the company, even if the brand’s claim that it wasn’t the vehicle itself to blame for the fire is true.
