Introduced in November, the Porsche Cayenne Electric lineup is being slowly filled, with the first new addition being the mid-range Cayenne S. Slotting just above the base Cayenne, the large electric SUV gains a heap more power to justify its higher positioning and the extra outlay. The dual motors that continue to drive all four wheels have been boosted to 544 PS (400 kW), rising up to a devilish 666 PS (490 kW) with launch control activated. That’s 224 PS (165 kW) more than the standard Cayenne, enabling the car to rocket from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds – a full second quicker – on its way to a top speed some 20 km/h higher at 250 km/h. Enabling this extra performance is direct oil cooling on the rear motor – similar to the full-fat Turbo – as well as a silicon carbide semiconductors on the inverter. Despite having the same 113 kWh battery as the other variants, the S actually has the most range, with a claimed 653 km on the WLTP cycle. And, just like other Porsche EVs, the Cayenne features an 800-volt architecture, allowing it to support up to 400 kW of DC fast charging; topping up the massive battery from 10 to 80% charge takes less than 16 minutes. Setting the S apart from the boggo Cayenne are body-coloured front and rear skid plates, as well as unique 20-inch Cayenne S aero wheels, although the latter can be optioned for the base model as well. No other changes, so you still get the same headline-grabbing curved OLED Flow Display, a 14.25-inch OLED instrument display and an optional 14.9-inch passenger screen. The S also gains options hitherto exclusive to the Turbo, such as Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) with an electronic locking rear differential, Porsche Active Ride suspension, the Sport Chrono pack with Track mode battery preconditioning and a 122 PS (90 kW) push-to-pass function, and carbon ceramic brakes. Porsche is also introducing a new Interior Style Package for the Cayenne, the first curated package from its Exclusive Manufaktur personalisation arm. This verdant set colours the interior to match the Mystic Green Metallic exterior hue, with Delgada Green leather, stitching and seat belts, an embroidered outline of the Porsche crest on the headrests (no actual emblem), and a Delgada Green steering wheel 12 o’clock marker. This is matched to highlights in Izabal Green, such as the aluminium decor, airbag boss ring, drive mode selector, the compass and Sport Chrono stopwatch, and the power meter in the instrument display. The viridescent shade even appears on the key, which can be slipped into a case featuring Delgada Green stitching. Bespoke floor mats and green anodised illuminated aluminium scuff plates complete the look.
