Scuderia Ferrari F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have revealed their views on Ferrari’s first all-electric car, the Luce, which has sparked controversy since its unveiling on May 25.The car community has been divided over the way the Luce looks, which is very different from traditional red Ferraris. Additionally, another topic of intense discussion is Ferrari’s entry into the EV market, a step that is miles away from its fire-spitting V12s and loud exhaust music. However, Hamilton and Leclerc have ignored that bit and chosen to focus on what the car actually has to offer in a video uploaded to YouTube. The Monegasque driver admitted that the Luce’s “design is very-very different to whatever we’ve seen from Ferrari in the past.”AdvertisementAdvertisementHe described the car as being futuristic, which is the only Ferrari-like element present in the Luce, “to look towards the future and to innovate.” Leclerc was particularly impressed by the buttons inside the car rather than a boring all-screen interface.Ferrari Luce | Courtesy: Ferrari.comFerrari Luce | Courtesy: Ferrari.comHis seven-time world champion teammate, Hamilton, apparently pushed the car to its limits more than Leclerc did himself. The Briton was impressed by the way the Luce drives, even though it looks nothing like a supercar. He said:“The power delivery is amazing. You just feel centered the whole time, even when you’re going through corners.”AdvertisementAdvertisementDespite the video being a typical marketing exercise, it is noteworthy that both drivers grinned while pushing the Luce on the track, even scaring Leclerc at times when Hamilton was behind the wheel. This suggests the car is actually fun to drive. Also featured in the video are VIPs from the Ferrari stable, such as executive chairman John Elkann, chief design officer Flavio Manzoni, chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera, head of global product marketing Emanuele Carando, and designers Jony Ive and Marc Newson from LoveFrom. What Does the Luce Have on Offer? One thing is evident: with a different fuel source, Ferrari has adopted an entirely new design philosophy and focused on functionality that contributed significantly to the driving experience.Unlike most EVs that come with screens stuck all over the dashboard, Ferrari has gone for a unique blend of buttons and a digital interface on the Luce, allowing the driver to actually feel each click while they enjoy some screen time.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe power output does not feel lacking in any way, given its supercar performance figures. The Luce comes equipped with a 122 kWh battery and four electric motors, all adding up to 1,036 hp, which helps reach 62 mph from zero in just 2.5 seconds.Ferrari also gave the Luce a new-generation active suspension and lightweight carbon ceramic brakes compatible with regenerative braking that can charge the car at 500 kW! Of course, all that comes at a price- just around $640,000 (£475,000).Ferrari Luce | Courtesy: Ferrari.com
