A man took his vehicle into Pep Boys for a thermostat change. Now he’s upset by the results and the management’s response to his complaints. TikTok creator 95Champion (@mindamoney) recently posted a video of an exchange he had with the employees of the Peps Boys he visited. The video starts in the middle of the argument with the employee telling 95Champion that he doesn’t want to talk anymore and directing him to submit a formal complaint. 95Champion replies that he wants to set the record straight about what happened. His video has over 75,000 views as of this writing. Why Is The Customer Upset At Pep Boys? According to 95Champion, he brought his vehicle in for a new thermostat because the heater was blowing cold air. He says he got the vehicle back after an hour, but raised concerns that the heat wasn’t blowing properly. They took his car back to the bay a second time, he says, but after an hour, he was told the vehicle was "spitting antifreeze" and would require a new water pump and a flush. "So I’m not understanding how y’all gave me the van, had me pay, and then the problem that I brought it in for wasn’t fixed," he says. "You brought it back over there, and now I have exponentially more problems." Eventually, the employee provided 95Champion with an email address to submit his complaint to his supervisor. 95Champion wasn't a fan of that solution, and continued to argue his case until the video cut off. Do People Trust Pep Boys? Pep Boys was founded over a century ago in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A decade ago, it merged with Icahn Automotive Group. Today, Pep Boys has locations across most of the US. While its longevity indicates a certain degree of reliability, opinions of the company are decidedly mixed. The company has just 2.7 out of 5 stars on Yelp, with over 60,000 reviews. It has an even lower rating on TrustPilot. In the comments section, viewers weighed in on 95Champion’s specific situation and also shared their own purported Pep Boys experiences. "Oh, why would you trust Pep Boys for anything?" asked one. "I have always handled these problems at the lowest level," said a former mechanic. "Most of these problems can be handled at the shop. I always worried about customer care versus profits." Another said, "If it wasn't leaking before or was confirmed to be leaking from the thermostat housing—not the thermostat—it’s their fault. You never return a vehicle after a coolant system repair without verifying functionality." A third person came to the company’s defense. "I go to Pep Boys all the time," they wrote. "I’ve never had a problem." Motor1 contacted 95Champion via TikTok comment and direct message for comment. We also contacted Pep Boys via press email for comment.
