Why Would A Man Paint His Mustang At Dollar General? This paint job in the Dollar General parking lot got viewers coming up with elaborate scenarios as to the reasoning behind it. "A white Mustang was spotted at the scene of a bank robbery. Can't be this one, it's grey," one Facebook user commented. "I'm guessing someone's looking for a white mustang, and he's got a plan... " another shared. "It's water base. Once the car is fully painted. He will run in and rob the store. Speed off in the painted car. People in the store will tell the police it was a gray mustang. He runs thru a car wash and all of sudden he is driving a white car!!!!!" a third added. What Does The Car Painting Process Entail? The car painting process entails addressing any body damage, prepping the surface, sealing the car, and then painting. Not to mention having the specialized equipment needed to paint and space to operate in. When getting a paint job done at the shop, it can take up to a week to complete. Some paint jobs with luxury sports cars can take up to 600 hours. On average, a basic car paint job can cost between $700 and $7,000. To begin, any damage to the car’s surface needs to be addressed. This means fixing any dents, dings, cracks, chips, or scratches before applying paint. If not, the damage will appear through the new coat of paint. The next step is ensuring the surface is prepped, which entails sanding and taping the vehicle. It also entails removing any parts that may interfere with the job. This is done to ensure the paint is applied evenly, avoiding cracks and peeling. After completing the body work and surface prep, sealing the car is next. The sealer establishes a barrier between the existing paint and the new paint being applied. By doing this, the paint can be consistent throughout with a higher gloss. The final step involves painting the car itself. Paint can vary in price, longevity, and appearance, including color matching, gloss, and metallic finishes. Should You Paint Your Own Car? Getting a new paint color for your vehicle can be a great way to freshen it up. Completing DIY projects can be a fun and fulfilling way to save some money. With the plethora of online knowledge and resources, DIY projects have become feasible and accessible. However, is painting your car considered to be a DIY project? While it may seem easy to pick up paint supplies and paint the car yourself, there is much more to it. The paint used for automotive projects is significantly different from any paint picked up at the store. For instance, spray paint is designed for short-term coverage and color, while automotive paint has a different consistency that holds up better in outdoor conditions. When using a spray paint or a paint roller, streaks and stripes become more noticeable. Normal and spray paint will chip and fade from sun exposure and the heat of the engine. Painting yourself is an extensive process, and it’s difficult to pull off. This is why car enthusiasts typically recommend not doing this task yourself. It’s easy to spot a DIY paint job on a car, and a bad paint job can devalue your vehicle. Motor1 has contacted Erik Almy via Facebook and Instagram direct message.
