Hyundai and Genesis electric car owners are getting a little boost in the United States. For an indefinite period of time, they are getting a discount at IONNA EV charging stations — and they don’t even have to do anything to get it, the discount is applied automatically. At a time when gas-car drivers have been getting fleeced, or at least having to pay more than they expected, a notable discount on EV charging could grab some people’s attention and make them think about switching to an EV. First of all, Hyundai and Genesis drivers are getting a 10% discount since Hyundai Motor America is a founding member of the IONNA joint venture. On top of that, the company is throwing an additional 10% discount on top. Though, the first 10% is an indefinite discount while the automaker-provided discount just runs through September 30, 2026. Again, the discount is provided automatically. There are no hoops to jump through or buttons you need to click or codes to apply. Well, that said, drivers must be able to use the Hyundai In‑App Charging or Plug&Charge functionality through the MyHyundai with Bluelink app. It’s not really that you have to jump through any hoops — it’s just that you have to have the right car. That includes the following: Hyundai IONIQ 5 | 2022 model year and newer Hyundai IONIQ 5 N | 2025 model year and newer Hyundai IONIQ 9 | 2026 model year and newer Hyundai KONA Electric | 2025 model year and newer Genesis GV60 | 2026 model year and newer Genesis Electrified GV70 | 2026 model year and newer “Range anxiety was never really only about the battery. It’s about trust in the system built around it. Automatic charging savings for Hyundai EV owners at IONNA stations across the U.S. is the benefit: no codes, no apps, no math at the charger, just immediate savings on fast, reliable public charging built into the ownership experience,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. “Hyundai is working to build confidence in the charging ecosystem through reliable charging, seamless payments, trust, and simplicity. We are investing in that infrastructure addressing one friction point a a time.” Sounds good to me.
