2027 Hyundai Tucson Is an Electrified AdventurerHyundaiThe Hyundai Tucson has entered a new era—one of a fresh, boxy design and electrified powertrains.Hyundai, which revealed the new crossover in New York City on Thursday, calls the redesigned 2027 Tucson its boldest SUV yet, saying the model embodies its latest "Art of Steel" design ethos. The crossover has grown: it's 2.6 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider, and three-quarters of an inch taller than its predecessor. But the 2027 Hyundai Tucson features notable mechanical changes as well as its new exterior proportions and futuristic looks.HyundaiAll 2027 Tucson units feature a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, but some of those inline-fours are assisted by an electric motor as part of the car's latest hybrid powertrain; an 8-speed automatic transmission comes along for the party. Hyundai claims 233 horsepower, a 0-60 mile-per-hour sprint of 8.5 seconds, and a target efficiency of 42 mpg from the hybrid powertrain. (A 184-horsepower internal combustion-only model will also be available.) An integrated electric water pump that simultaneously cools the internal combustion engine and battery pack, as well as an E-Traction torque vectoring system, are also new on the Tucson.Video By HyundaiHyundai will also offer a plug-in hybrid version of the Tucson in select markets for 2027. The PHEV will offer 50 miles of all-electric range, 288 horsepower, and 279 lb-ft of torque. An XRT model featuring forged-carbon wheel arches and lower black areas, and an XRT Pro with standard all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, aggressive approach and departure angles, and front recovery hooks, will also be available. Thanks to its 8.2 inches of ground clearance and Hyundai's Smart Terrain Assist system, the Tucson XRT Pro promises to be a willing off-road rig. The latter system uses real-time terrain difficulty assessment to analyze traction and slip conditions and provides visual guidance via a green, orange, or red "stuck score," with automatic terrain detection (Auto/Snow/Mud/Sand/Rock modes) included.HyundaiInside the 2027 Hyundai Tucson, there's a new infotainment system, Pleos Connect, which is featured on a 12.9-inch or 17-inch primary touchscreen display. It's based on Hyundai's Android Automotive OS and uses Gleo AI, an in-vehicle agentic AI understands natural conversation and user context to reduce the need to navigate menus. Hyundai says this infotainment screen, which uses three-finger gesture controls and an expansive single-screen mode, is built to limit distractions. An in-cabin monitoring unit has also been installed for 2027, capable of monitoring driver eye activity and issuing proactive fatigue alerts.Hyundai focused on tactile comfort with the interior of the 2027 Tucson. There are actual buttons for climate control and audio settings, and a Double D-Cut steering wheel paired with a 9.9- inch slim instrument display keeps the driver's visual field uncluttered. Two new seating options for relaxing while stationary are also available: the Ergo Motion Seat, featuring a seven-cell pneumatic lumbar and bolster massage system, and the four-link Relaxation Comfort Seat with one-button recline to 10 degrees.HyundaiThe Korean automaker also teased that a sportier version of the Tucson will be revealed on October 12 at the 2026 Paris Motor Show.
