Yin said the model is currently undergoing adjustments to meet regulatory requirements and local market preferences in different regions. This marks one of the first clear indications that Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance vehicles are moving beyond China, though no specific launch markets or timelines were disclosed. Huawei executive Yu Chengdong added that both the Luxeed R7 and S7 have attracted attention not only from domestic buyers but also from international audiences, citing their coupe-style design and advanced sensor hardware. Chery chairman Yin Tongyue confirmed that talks with the overseas dealer group are underway. Product positioning and technology The Luxeed R7 was relaunched in March alongside the updated S7, forming part of Huawei’s expanding smart vehicle lineup previewed ahead of the Beijing Auto Show. Positioned as a premium electric SUV, the R7 features a 0.217 drag coefficient, previously reported as the lowest among mass-production SUVs, alongside a 896-line dual-path LiDAR system designed for advanced driver assistance. The model is available in both battery-electric and range-extended variants. The EREV version uses a 1.5T engine paired with electric motors, delivering up to 382 kW, while the BEV variant adopts Huawei’s 800V high-voltage platform, with a peak output of 365 kW and CLTC range figures up to 802 km. Adapting for global markets Chery indicated that localisation work is underway, including compliance with overseas regulations and potential feature adjustments based on regional demand. The mention of active dealer engagement suggests that distribution networks may already be forming ahead of official market entries. While Chinese automakers have accelerated exports in recent years, Huawei’s involvement introduces a different model, combining consumer-electronics ecosystem integration with automotive manufacturing through partners such as Chery. Luxeed R7 sales in China. Credit: China EV DataTracker Data context: domestic performance According to China EV DataTracker, sales data show the Luxeed R7 recorded 1,820 units in March 2026, down 78.6% year-on-year, following 1,945 units in February and 3,821 units in January. The decline comes after a peak of over 10,000 units in November 2025, indicating a sharp contraction in early 2026 despite the model maintaining a high share within the Luxeed brand lineup. Industry push The overseas push aligns with broader efforts by Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance to scale beyond China. The alliance has rapidly expanded its model lineup with multiple automaker partners, positioning software, connectivity, and intelligent driving as core differentiators. Whether the Luxeed R7 becomes the first Huawei-backed vehicle to achieve meaningful export volume remains unclear, but the confirmed preparation phase signals a shift from domestic rollout to global ambition.
