Only 60 examples will be built, each requiring 5,000 hours of labor. Prices for these restomods will start at an eye-watering $570,000. Cabin includes a bespoke 1.4-meter-long gallery and tan leather. While it’s classic sports cars and supercars that are the cars of choice for most restomodders, Halcyon in the UK has decided to breathe new life into the Rolls-Royce Corniche. Sitting at the heart of the car is an improved version of the iconic L-Series V8 used by Rolls-Royce and Bentley for over six decades. Known as the Great Eight Series, this version brings subtle mechanical changes to the familiar 6.75-liter V8. Power is up, throttle response is sharper, and that’s about as much detail as you’ll get, as the company isn’t saying how much or what exactly has changed. One Of 60 The first Corniche from Halcyon has been previewed with the so-called ‘Rose and Scroll’ design study. The car is painted in Arboretum Green, offering a deep metallic finish that’s said to sparkle under light with shifting vibrancy. Given that vehicles like the Corniche are all about class, there are none of the overt bodywork modifications that we see from some restomods. Changes have also been made to the car’s interior. For example, it’s trimmed in plush new tan leather and includes a new 1.4-meter-long gallery in the dashboard that can be configured to the buyer’s tastes. In this example, the ‘Halcyon Gallery’ features bespoke rose and scroll engraving as well as inlays of the Kingfisher bird. “We set out to create the best versions of these cars for today, and The Great Eight Series builds on our philosophy through a distinctly mechanical experience,” Halcyon CEO Matthew Pearson said. “The L-Series V8 is one of the great engines of its time, loved for the way it made a car feel and for the effortless way it delivered its performance. We’ve taken that character and elevated it, refining both its performance and the way it delivers it. Alongside our electric interpretation, it offers a distinct expression of the same Halcyon standard, defined by mechanical character and a true sense of occasion.” The British marque plans to make 60 of its special The Great Eight Series and says that each will take 5,000 hours to build. Of these 60, 30 will be based on Rolls-Royce and Bentley Corniche Drop Head Coupe models, 20 will be based on Fixed Head Coupe versions, and the remaining 10 will be based on Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series models. Prices will start from £425,000 (about $570,000 at current rates).
