When Genesis revealed the Neolun concept just ahead of the 2024 New York auto show, previewing the upcoming GV90, we figured the coach doors wouldn't appear on the final product. But now, an interview with Genesis Europe managing director Peter Kronschnabl in British publication CAR has revealed that the doors will actually make it into customer driveways.GenesisIn the interview, Kronschnabl confirmed that the GV90 will feature coach doors, where the back doors are hinged from the rear, opening in the opposite direction of the front doors. Coach doors were popular back in the 1930s, but are incredibly rare nowadays and would give the GV90 a more unique touch versus alternatives such as the Lucid Gravity or Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. As Kronschnabl pointed out, "The only other brand with coach doors is Rolls-Royce."AdvertisementAdvertisementIt appears the coach doors may be available as an option, since a prototype spotted on the Nürburgring back in 2025 sported rear doors that appear to open normally. While historically, coach doors meant no B-pillar between the front and rear doors, all modern uses have featured a B-pillar due to modern safety standards that require a more rigid body structure. Along with Rolls-Royces, the Ferrari Purosangue also features a rear-hinged rear door, and previously Lincoln offered a special-edition Continental with coach doors.GenesisThe GV90 was originally expected to be revealed in late 2025, but has faced multiple delays as Genesis reportedly had to spend extra time developing the car's autonomous driving software. But we won't have to wait too much longer. Kronschnabl told CAR that the GV90 will be revealed in full in August.
