The electrified version is arguably even better, thanks to a strong powertrain and premium trim. It competes against luxury EVs including the Volvo EX60, BMW iX3, and Cadillac Lyriq.Best of all? For 2027, The GV70 Electric is cheaper than ever before. What's NewPrice drop of over $5,000Active noise cancellation, premium sound, and leatherette crash pad are now available on Advanced trimPanoramic sunroof no longer included on base modelsHeated steering wheel standard across the rangeMinor paint and badging tweaksWhat We ThinkThe 2027 Genesis GV70 Electric is a supremely excellent luxury crossover with one glaring flaw. We still think most buyers will love it.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn many ways, the GV70 Electric feels like the best version of the Korean brand's compact crossover. Like the conventional GV70, it's comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and beautiful to look at. Thanks to a powerful dual-motor powertrain, the Electric version is quicker, quieter, and drastically more efficient. The suspension strikes an admirable balance between comfort and cornering performance. In day-to-day life, it's simply an easy car to get along with. The one notable exception is range. Although last year's refresh improved matters somewhat, the GV70 Electric is hampered by an EPA-rated range of only 250 miles. The previous model underperformed range estimates in our testing, so we wouldn't expect to match that figure out on real roads. In an EV landscape with cars regularly exceeding 300 or 400 miles of range, the GV70 is a step behind.350-kW fast charging certainly helps. Even better, Genesis has implemented substantial price cuts for 2027—upgrading from combustion to electric power now costs less than $10,000. Especially for drivers who will primarily use the car around town, we recommend this SUV.Top-Ranked Competitors:Cadillac LyriqVolvo EX60Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class ElectricBMW iX3Porsche Macan EVMotorTrend TestedThe 2027 GV70 Electric is available with only one powertrain, but it's a good one. All-wheel drive comes standard thanks to a motor on each axle. The two combine for total output of 429 hp and 516 lb-ft under normal circumstances, but a 10-second Boost mode can temporarily add another 54 hp.AdvertisementAdvertisementA 3.7-second 0–60 time makes the GV70 Electric one of the quicker SUVs on the road. Still, don't expect a sporty drive—the suspension is tuned for comfort, and it does a beautiful job soaking up imperfections at highway speeds. Steering is light but accurate. Our only niggle is braking: The system struggles with the transition between friction and regenerative braking, which creates an occasional lurch.Charging and RangeThe GV70's 2026 refresh brought a new 84.0-kWh battery pack (up from 77.4 kWh). That translated to a modest gain in driving range, but according to the EPA, the GV70 Electric tops out at only 250 miles. No matter how you slice it, that puts the GV70 Electric at a disadvantage. All its main rivals boast over 300 miles of range in some or all trims, and several can manage over 400. If long drives are a regular habit, the Genesis may not be the best choice. Not all the news is bad, though. The GV70 gets a Tesla-style NACS port for easy access to the Supercharger network, and a 240-kW fast-charging rate means a10 to 80 percent charge takes just 18 minutes.Safety Ratings and FeaturesThe GV70 Electric has yet to be tested by the NHTSA, but the IIHS declared last year's model a Top Safety Pick+ award winner. Crash test scores were excellent, and we expect the 2027 model to perform equally well.AdvertisementAdvertisementGenesis has made features per dollar one of its trademark virtues, and safety is no exception. Every GV70 gets a full complement of active safety tech. We had some quibbles with the brand's early implementation of driver aids like lane keeping assist, but midcycle upgrades have improved matters.Standard safety features include:Automatic emergency brakingLane keeping assistBlind-spot monitoringAdaptive cruise controlDriver attention monitorRear occupant alertCargo Space and Interior RoomThe GV70 Electric seats five in comfort. While the cabin is a lovely place to spend time, the GV70 is down on rear legroom compared to most rivals. Cargo capacity is respectable, but competitors like the Volvo EX60 are more practical with the seats folded.TechnologyInfotainmentFront and center on the GV70's dash is a massive 27.0-inch screen. The oversized unit includes a digital gauge cluster for the driver, as well as an infotainment touchscreen. Navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all baked in, and the system can be controlled via voice recognition.AdvertisementAdvertisementWireless charging, fingerprint authentication, and remote start come standard on all models. Optional add-ons include:Active noise cancellationHead-up displaySemi-autonomous parking assistNFC digital keySound SystemStandard nine-speaker audioAvailable 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audioValueStandard FeaturesEven in base form, the GV70 Electric is well equipped. Perforated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are standard on all trims.Moving up to the Advanced trim (at an upcharge of around $8,000) adds larger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, backlit interior trim, power lumbar and seat cushion extension, Bang & Olufsen sound, ventilated front seats, and a power tilt/telescope steering wheel.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Prestige trim is the GV70's most luxurious form. For another $4,350, Prestige models add Nappa leather seating, three-zone automatic climate control, heated rear seats, a head-up display, and remote parking assist.Recommended TrimThe GV70 Electric is a strong value in all trims, especially compared to German rivals like the BMW iX3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Electric.Still, this year's price cut means the base trim is a better value than ever. For around $60,000, the base model ticks the most important boxes: stellar design, excellent driving dynamics, and a premium feel. If you plan to go on frequent road trips and want 300 miles of EPA-rated range, though, other rivals may be a better fit.
