UPDATE: March 24, 2026 Added new information from Genesis regarding the stiffness of the accelerator pedal, and how that stiffness applies to different drive modes.Among the various challenges EVs present to automakers, one of the trickier ones is making them more involving and engaging. Certainly they're exciting to launch with their impressive power and torque, but other aspects of the driving experience are lost when there aren't sounds, gears, and fewer mechanical connections to work with. Hyundai Motor Group has certainly been trying to add back some involvement in its high-performance EVs, such as with various acceleration sounds and even simulated gearboxes. Genesis is now adding a contribution with some special attention paid to the throttle pedal in the GV60 Magma.Genesis Genesis Is Going To Extreme Detail To Make The Magma Feel Different On top of the performance upgrades, the Genesis also adjusted the feel of the throttle pedal. Just going from the regular GV60 to the Magma model, the pedal has been made heavier across the board. In a press release, Taejun Kang, a senior research engineer on the EV Performance Test Team said the heavier feeling to the pedal will "enhance control over acceleration."Joel Stocksdale / CarBuzz / Valnet Basically, it's easier not to overshoot how much acceleration you asked for, which is good when you're dealing with more than 600 horsepower. The company also seemed to add more resistance deeper into the pedal travel, versus lower down, so that you're not wearing out your leg at low speeds around town or cruising on the highway. More Resistance, But Consistent Across All Drive Modes The press release suggests the pedal resistance is variable depending on the drive mode, but this is not the case. "The feel of the accelerator pedal has been optimized overall, and changes based on the drive mode." After speaking to Genesis about this statement, the "feel" being referenced isn't the physical resistance, but the sensitivity and response to pressure being applied. Those aspects can change between drive modes, but the stiffness is the same across the board. It Will Be The Fastest Of The Hyundai Group EVs Plus, since Genesis is focused on luxury, as well as performance, the Magma should be more comfy and refined than its cousins. It has extra chassis reinforcements and suspension tuning that's supposed to be sporty, but not sacrifice too much comfort. It has seats that are meant to hold you, but not hurt you, and they have more power adjustments than in the other cars. Genesis also includes additional sound deadening to keep the cabin quiet. Basically, this is the EV that should give you everything with hardly any compromise.
