However, those aren't the Blue Oval's only vehicles that currently carry the moniker.Last year, Ford launched the Bronco New Energy for China. Built in collaboration with Jiangling Motors, it's little more than a distant relative of its US counterparts because of its platform and EREV powertrain. After launching in China, the Bronco Basecamp is now bound for Australia and New Zealand. - Credit: FordInteresting as the New Energy seemed, I'll admit I didn't give it too much thought because of its limited availability. But now that it's bound for a new market, I can only hope it eventually lands here too.Ford's Basecamp targets new roadsThat's because the Bronco heading to Australia and New Zealand isn't just any New Energy; it's the super-cool Basecamp version. As such, it leads with some sweet overnight-ready accommodations.Ford bills the Bronco Basecamp as a rig ideal for anyone who wants to spend time outdoors. - Credit: FordFor instance, both the front and rear seats fold completely flat to double as a platform for sleeping on the road. Ford even offers an additional full-length inflatable mattress designed for the space to make stays more comfortable.AdvertisementAdvertisementElsewhere, Ford has integrated a rear utility table into the Bronco Basecamp's tailgate to provide an outdoor meal prep area. It features magnets to keep cutlery organized, and it tucks away neatly when not in use.The optional full-length mattress spans front and rear rows. - Credit: FordThose are far from the only standout features. At higher trim levels, Ford equips the Basecamp with equipment like a 7.5-liter warm/cool storage compartment in the center console for housing drinks and snacks. The Outer Banks model also gets a pop-top roof. It deploys at the touch of a button thanks to electrical actuation, and it sports a zippered gusset to allow for an open-air experience. The Outerbanks trim gets a 7.5-liter warm/cool storage compartment for drinks and snacks. - Credit: FordOf course, as an EREV, the Bronco Basecamp brings another camping-ready advantage: V2L power. By tapping into the same battery that drives the wheels, Ford can offer up to 6.6kW of off-grid power to supply everything from cooktops and kettles to tech and tools.AdvertisementAdvertisementEven though Ford hasn't provided full powertrain specs yet, the Basecamp still promises to be compelling for reasons beyond its outdoor-ready vibes. With a 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine serving as a range extender, the Blue Oval provisionally claims driving distances of 800 – 900 kilometers (497 – 559 miles) on a single charge. The pop-top roof adds room inside, but the Bronco Basecamp has the potential to be so much more (outside). - Credit: FordAvailability and pricingAccording to Ford's announcement, the Bronco Basecamp is scheduled to hit Australia and New Zealand in mid-2027.While there's no indication the model will make the jump to the US market, it's still worth watching. It shows how far the Bronco badge can stretch, and it grounds the brand's recent patents in something real.Ford Bronco Basecamp Learn More AdvertisementAdvertisementAbout the Author: Gray is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, motorcycles and anything else with wheels.
